The new venue has the capacity to hold just over 2,000 people with a host of artists planned to perform in 2015.

Denmark - The eye-catching Black Diamond cultural centre in Copenhagen is a modern waterfront extension to the old Royal Danish Library building. Earning its quasi-official nickname from its polished black granite cladding and irregular angles, it houses a number of public facilities, centred round its top-lit atrium.

One of the main features of the centre is The Queen's Hall, a 600-seat auditorium used for a variety of events ranging from classical and jazz concerts to literary events and conferences. The hall's cutting-edge acoustic modelling allows for sound reinforcement that can be adjusted to the specific requirements of the type of music being played. This, in theory, made the venue ideal for the recording of classical music, but the noise generated by the existing lighting system rendered this impossible. In fact, the hall's authorities had, with little success, sought a

UK - UK companies installing energy monitoring systems, such as the MeasureMyEnergy equipment offered by consultancy :entertaining sustainability, can now qualify for upfront financing from the Carbon Trust's Energy Efficiency Financing Scheme.

The scheme, which is run on behalf of the Carbon Trust by Siemens Finance, provides initial funding for the installation, with repayments made over a maximum of five years from the savings generated by working with the equipment.

The MeasureMyEnergy system - already installed at the Royal Opera House's Linbury Studio - utilises sensors on each circuit within a distribution board to log consumption, flag up anomalies and present real-time data via a secure web app.

Companies already working with the system - anecdotally report savings of between 10% and 20% through the ability to target the highest areas of consumption within a buildin

W Music Club is a new chain of venues which highlights the atmosphere of both live and recorded music, but at generally lower volumes than a traditional nightclub. USA - XS Nightclub at Encore at Wynn Las Vegas knows success and has every intention of retaining its title as the top-grossing nightclub in the United States. Although Steve has a long-standing relationship with the operators of the venue, this is his first time doing design work for XS. There are multiple reasons why the club has been successful for so long, he says, one being the fact that it's located in one of the most well-known, most successful casino hotel properties in Las Vegas in Encore/Wynn. "Another is the fact that everything at

Australia - Located on the southern bank of the Brisbane River and built on lands which were the traditional home to the Jagera and Turrbal Aboriginal people, the Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC) is the premier Arts Centre in Queensland, Australia.

The team at the Playhouse Theatre, which opened in 1998, recently took a decision to replace its existing dimmers. Phil Viney from Design Stage was engaged to prepare a specification that would directly replace new for old dimmers in the 850-seat venue.

Due to space limitations and the existing dimmers' footprint, any replacement dimmer ideally needed to be a small footprint unit that could easily be distributed around various locations in the venue. The only alternative available at the time was to use rack-mounted dimmers - however, such a solution would occupy valuable floor space, be more expensive and more difficult to

UK - When the Stamford Corn Exchange Theatre in Lincolnshire took the decision to invest in a permanently installed active line array system for its 399-seat auditorium, it opted for an RCF HDL10-A from locally based LUX Technical.

The Theatre, which was built within the shell of the original Corn Exchange Hall in the Victorian era, needed a versatile system to handle its varied programme ranging from stand-up comedy to local am-dram and full blown rock concerts. LUX Technical bid successfully for the contract which was issued by theatre manager Judith Mackie. Having experience LUX Technical's larger HDL20-A rental system on many occasions, her team had been fully aware of the system's coverage capabilities.

"We decided to install a permanent system because when touring companies arrive with their own production they often carry enormous speakers. We wanted to make it eas

USA - Matanuska-Susitna College (MSC) has installed Alaska's first Meyer Sound Constellation acoustic system in its new Glenn Massay Theatre, a 523-seat facility purpose-built for Constellation. With the goal of accommodating a broad range of educational activities and arts performances in a single venue, the venue uses the system to provide ideal acoustics for all its events, including orchestral and choral concerts, student assemblies, lectures, fine arts performances, and amplified rock music.

"We're blown away by how great the room sounds," says theatre director Matt Sale. "It's hard to tell what is the room's own acoustical response and what is due to Constellation. If you walk in not knowing Constellation is on, you wouldn't think there was any enhancement. But when you turn it off, it's like when you have to pop your ears when going up in elevation."

Haiti - In the aftermath of Haiti's devastating 2010 earthquake, which killed hundreds of thousands of people and destroyed the infrastructure of its major cities, new construction is renewing hope among the Haitian people, albeit slowly.

The earthquake destroyed the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Assumption in the capital city of Port-au-Prince, one of the struggling nation's prized architectural and cultural landmarks. Although plans are underway to rebuild the cathedral, its completion is still a decade away, in the best case.

To bridge the time between now and then, the Catholic Church recently completed a steel-frame open-air cathedral that seats 1,600 adjacent to the old church's ruins. Miami-based Revelation Sound, Inc. designed and installed the sound reinforcement and electronic clarion systems for the steel-frame cathedral, counting on Ashly Audio processing, amplifica

USA - NYC's Marriott Edition Hotel is one of the latest projects created by US entrepreneur Ian Schrager, who originally rose to fame as co-owner and co-founder of Studio 54 in the late 1970s. To take care of the audio solution, Schrager's director of development, Michael Overington, enlisted the services of Ernie Lake's specialist AV firm, EL Media Group.

"We knew exactly what was needed from the start. Working in cooperation with Schrager's designers and the head of branding, Ben Pundole, we were asked to put together a system able to handle a DJ and other general audio duties, which could perform well and at different levels. Quality and even sound dispersion were an absolute must," says Lake. "The client also requested remote access for volume and source."
