UK - The Theatres Trust has announced its fifth round of small capital grants to theatres. Among the five successful theatres in this round are the Grade II listed Trinity Theatre in Tunbridge Wells and the community-owned Shanklin Theatre on the Isle of Wight.

South Africa - The Tshwane University of Technology's Faculty of the Arts, in partnership with the City of Tshwane and DWR Distribution, will launch Hello, a community theatre arts festival this weekend. The festival aims to expand the boundaries of theatre by interacting with local and emerging artists at the Breytenbach Theatre on Friday, 29 and Saturday, 30 August.

The opening event at the Breytenbach Theatre will feature a musical show based on the story of 50 Gogos (grannies) who decided to leave their comfort zones and to meet each morning for activities to keep them healthy. UK - The Association of British Theatre Technicians (ABTT) has announced that Louise Jeffreys, the Barbican's director of arts, will be its new chairman. Jeffreys succeeds Mark White, regional manager UK & Ireland for Electronic Theatre Controls (ETC).

Jeffreys' extensive background in the performing arts, encompassing programming, production and venue management, alongside roles as head of production at Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich and technical director at English National Opera, make her the ideal candidate to lead the ABTT's Council of Management over the next 12 months, says the association.

Her timely appointment comes at an exciting moment for the ABTT following 12 years of consolidation and steady development under White, and with the full-time Chief Executive Officer Robin Townley now in post.
