Bangalore-based MRH Digital Systems, the QSC Audio distributors, says that this is part of an attempt by the operators to connect with the younger generation. "They are finding that quality, hip and trendy music is winning over the traditional pipe background music," says the company's Poncho Gopinadhan.
"In this instance they were launching a new range of jewellery for youngsters and wanted the music in their showroom to be in keeping with their new offering and target group. Their specifications were clarity of sound and subtlety - a set up that will allow their customers to enjoy the ambient music and at the same time enable them to converse without having to scream." One of the conditions of the contract was that the equipment had to be delivered and installed inside 24 hours.
The interior designers, Murali Architects, were impressed with the low end response produced by the complement of AcousticDesign AD-C52T and the AD-S52 loudspeakers, which are fed from professional CD players and powered by QSC ISA 300Ti and ISA 500Ti amplifiers. Given the restricted space available, the ceiling-mount AD-C52Ts were spaced at 10ft distances while AD-S52's were used in areas where there was no false ceiling available.
"GRT's original concern was whether they would get sufficient bass from a ceiling speaker and small surface mount speakers - but they need not have worried," states Gopinadhan. "QSC's line of ceiling and surface mount speakers were chosen for their sonic excellence against other manufacturers."
All equipment was supplied by Michael Nicholas of Chennai-based Radioaktiv Enterprises, who had also responded favourably to the AD-C and AD-S series when he auditioned them. "The quality and clarity of sound were impressive at low volume, and I'm a firm believer that it's the demonstration that makes the sale."
