UK - The Association of British Theatre Technicians (ABTT) will use the opportunity of its forthcoming Theatre Show (13-14 June), to present a seminar discussion on the future of industry training, at London's Old Truman Brewery, on Wednesday 13 June, 12:45pm-2pm, in the venue's Seminar Room. Speakers include: Robin Auld, operations director, National Skills Academy Creative & Cultural; Chris Parry-Jones, head of Gallowglass Training; and, Bryan Raven, managing director, White Light.

Throughout the last year, the Association has continued to develop and promote its Technical Access Passport (TAP) - launched at the ABTT 2011 Theatre Show - a scheme that creates an online repository for verified training, skills, insurance and other professional information.

Now, with TAP gaining weight within the industry, the second phase of the scheme is ready to start. Industry trainers will be able to use TAP to input their training information directly onto the system, with an academic tracking module due for release soon after.

However, throughout the yearlong process, the conversation has continuously raised questions on training validation, accreditation, national vocational standards and prior learning. Therefore, it is timely to use the current ABTT Theatre Show, to continue the wider discussion on this 'holy grail' of subjects.

ABTT: A Focus on the Future of Industry Training. How Do We Measure It? How Do We Value It? How Do We Compare It? is particularly aimed at training providers and educational establishments but is also applicable to anyone working backstage (in any capacity and at all levels), as well as freelancers, employees & employers, member-based organisations & associations, live entertainment venue owners and contractors.

Joining speakers Robin Auld, Chris Parry-Jones and Bryan Raven, will be Tom Mannings, representing the ABTT, to offer opinion and discussion, alongside audience Q&A.

The seminar is open to all registered visitors of the ABTT 2012 Theatre Show, on a first come first served basis. For free entry, register in advance at www.abtttheatreshow.org.uk
