India - On 6 April, India's National Council of Science Museums (NCSM) opened its long-awaited Science Exploration Hall - an impressive new exhibition centre within the famous Kolkata Science City. The new Exploration Hall features three galleries, which together tell the story of human evolution.

Eight HDX-W20 FLEX projectors from visualization expert Barco, set up by VizExperts, bring a breathtaking 360° view on human evolution in the crispest of colours.

Established in 1997, the iconic Science City is India's largest science centre. "Our goal is to bring science to the people, and to young people in particular. To stir their enthusiasm, we make our message as fun and interactive as possible, by using state-of-the-art technology," says A D. Choudhury, Director of NCSM, science city park.

When in 2013, Science City decided to build a new hall fully dedicated to an exhibition on human evolution, it chose to partner with local technology consultant VizExperts who, in turn, recommended Barco for its excellent reputation as a digital cinema leader and its experience with similar projects worldwide.

VizExperts mounted eight geometry-corrected HDX-W20 FLEX projectors on a specially designed canopy, together with the surround sound system. The projectors visualize the whole story of human evolution in one, single panoramic image onto a 10m-high cylindrical screen (39m diameter).

Barco's advanced blending technology ensures a continuous, seamless image without distortion. "Given the scale of the set-up, the 360-degree panorama was a technically challenging project. However, the unmatched colour and brightness consistency of Barco's HDX projectors made this installation a breeze," said Vaibhav Bansal, VizExperts' VP marketing.

"We are proud to support this exhibition and thus help India's prestigious Science City bring science closer to the people," says Mandar Gupte, sales director at Barco. "As a global technology leader, Barco is also on a continuous mission to encourage young people to take an interest in science and technology. We are honoured that Science City chose our solutions to achieve that same objective."
