UK - Despite the issues that have been making the headlines concerning the opening of Heathrow's new Terminal 5, there is still much to be proud of in the building, including a major design and installation project recently completed for World Duty Free by Bradford-based audio specialists Pro Audio Systems. The contract, awarded against stiff national competition, was to advise World Duty Free on the best and most innovative way to operate a fully integrated sound and visual media marketing package throughout their stores.

To this end, Pro Audio Systems created an integrated network of audio systems in 13 zones across seven World Duty Free stores throughout the terminal. A total of 11 Lab.gruppen fP 2600 power amplifiers were used to drive the Meyer loudspeaker system with processing from Klark Teknik.

Pro Audio Systems managing director, Brian Lumb explained why he selected Lab.gruppen fP 2600s for the project. "We have been using Lab.gruppen amplifiers in our rental department for many years and have always been impressed with their reliability and performance. I felt that if they were robust enough to stand up to the rigours of touring with almost no failures at all, then sitting in a rack running at quarter power for most of the time, they will last forever and a day."

Lumb also pointed out that the system includes several zones that have the facility to run a live event, be it a celebrity make-over with radio microphones, or even a small concert. "Lab.gruppen is certainly no stranger to the live side of things, so that was one more good reason to go that route," he remarked.
