Thousands of dedicated fans flocked to London to celebrate the latest instalment in the Star Wars franchise, where Stormtroopers and Jedi knights joined the cast and celebrities for the biggest premiere of the year.
It was in Leicester Square that the cast and crew were joined by celebrity guests, as the area around the Empire and Odeon cinemas were transformed into a space-themed venue.
LED lighting from SGM illuminated the entire length of the red carpet, as well as the two cinemas and the stage set where the world's media captured the stars.
Utopium's Colin Bodenham, who designed and project managed the event, called on a wide range of fixtures from the SGM portfolio, including 68 SGM P-5s, 12 SGM P-2s, eight SGM Q-7 luminaires and 16 X-5 LED strobes.
"In terms of the power output, the SGM fixtures did a great job, particularly as they were fighting against the video walls," Bodenham remarks.
The P-5s were used to light the carpet itself, while the P-2s were used on the stage. Many of the P-5s were used as wash lights, with the 43° lens aperture, however six of the fixtures on the carpet were fitted with the 21° lens, largely for the step and repeat boards.
"These fixtures are wicked," Colin Bodenham says in summary. "We use them all the time. They are compact and light, and because of their IP65 rating there is never any problem operating them in the rain. The size also really helps - they are slick and neat, and just give you everything you would want."
