USA - West Palm Beach, Florida's Family Church Downtown, formerly known as First Baptist Church, has replaced its aging centre cluster PA with an L-Acoustics line array system. The new rig comprises a total of 20 Kara(i) enclosures, flown left and right, complemented by three flown SB18 single-18-inch subwoofers per side, with four SB28 dual-18-inch subs positioned below the stage.

According to Allen Peerson, president of Jupiter, Florida-based Peerson Audio, Inc., which supplied and installed the L-Acoustics system, "I think my father did the original system, a single Altec Lansing multi-cell, when they built the church, and we put in the center cluster system over 20 years ago, so it was certainly time for an update.

USA - Markus Burger, coordinator of music technology at Fullerton College, CA, is in no doubt that the recent installation of an Audient ASP8024 analogue mixing console in the studio is an important addition to Audio Recording programme. "The era of consoles is coming back," he declares with confidence.

UK - RCF partner, Nitelites, has become the first UK company to acquire RCF's flagship TTL55-A active PA system, having invested in a complete arena/festival sized system.

This will not only give the sound and lighting specialists the capacity to provide sound coverage of the largest festival sites but at the same time provide them with a number of scalable options for smaller events.

The consignment of 144 premium RCF cabinets includes 56 TTL55-A high-power three-way enclosures, 24 x TTS56-A 2 x 21" subs and 24 x TTS36-A 2 x 18" subs. In addition, a further 24 of the smaller TTL33-A will be used as down-fill boxes at the bottom of each hang, as well as in-fill duties, while 16 TTL36-AS will provide further LF extension, boosting the dynamic range of the flown arrays.

The Netherlands - Attracting over 100,000 visitors every year, for three decades De Naald (The Needle) theatre in Naaldwijk has been a cultural hub for the region south-west of The Hague - since 2004 officially the Dutch municipality of Westland. The watchword for every aspect of the theatre's work is 'quality', which is why a QL1 has recently become its fourth Yamaha digital mixing console.

De Naald is truly at the heart of the community. The Netherlands - ISE 2016 will be showcasing a raft of Ravenna/AES67-enabled products from a number of different manufacturers as well as some exciting demonstrations of new applications. Germany - Modeon Cultural Centre in Bavaria recently purchased an Allen & Heath GLD digital mixing system to manage all its audio requirements across several rooms and involving a varied programme of events.

The centre has several performing spaces, and runs a variety of different events, including theatre productions, panel discussions and conferences.

Selecting a GLD-80 mixer with AR2412 remote IO rack, the centre also installed a patch bay to change the expander port on the AR2412 or the console from one room to another, and enable the centre to run simultaneous events, all routed and controlled via the mixer, or an iPad with the GLD Remote app to alter the levels in the specific room. Furthermore, the system provides playback and recording capability via a Dante network card, offering up to four stereo playbacks and up to 64 recording channels.

The Netherlands - Powersoft arrives at ISE 2016 (Booth #7K-182) on the back of successful year spent raising market share in global markets.

Aside from their successes in concert touring, the release of the Dante-supporting Ottocanali series of multi-channel amplifiers (12K4, 8K4, 4K4) has given them a platform for installers that in turn has enabled them to raise their profile exponentially at this show.

USA - Emanuel Lutheran Church on Santa Barbara's Modoc Road, recently decided to upgrade its audio system, and asked Brian Thompson of TNR Electronics in Ojai, and Ed Simeone of Dedicated Marketing in Westlake Village (both in California), to provide the upgrade. They wanted improved voice intelligibility and music quality, flexible configurations for their various services and a "hands-off" user interface for most services with the option of operator control when needed.

Simeone chose Allen & Heath's Qu-Pac digital audio mixer to fill these needs. It offered the hands-off, automatic-mixer operation the church wanted and an iPad interface for operator control when needed. The rack-mount Qu-Pac could be hidden in the church's equipment closet and had ample DSP for everything from house equalization to reverb for the choir mics.

World - Madonna's Rebel Heart Tour employs a pair of DiGiCo SD7s under the control of the tour's FOH engineer Andy Meyer and monitor engineers Matt Napier and Sean Spuehler. Meyer and Napier are both using SD7s with Napier's console featuring an EX007 fader expansion where Spuehler mixes Madonna's vocals and effects.

"Madonna likes her live sound to be as close as possible to the album," says Napier. "To accomplish this, Sean focuses on mixing her vocal effects and delays, which are then bussed to the FOH console so - in theory, at least - the audience hears exactly the same vocal sound that she does."

The KT-USB is a class-compliant USB 2.0 Network Module and requires just a single USB cable to connect to either a Mac or PC running any industry standard DAW software. The Netherlands - Yamaha's Commercial Installation Solutions (CIS) range has been expanded with the DCH8 Digital Controller Hub, which allows multiple control lines for the DCP series Digital Control Panel units to be connected to a Yamaha MRX7-D signal processor or MTX series matrix processor.

The DCH8 functions as a relay device between the host device and DCP series, allowing a combination of star and daisy-chain connections. Power is supplied via the CAT5e cable from the host device, simplifying cabling and allowing flexible device layout.* Screw holes for mounting flanges are provided on both the rear and sides, for flexible mounting in a variety of situations.

UK - Allen & Heath's new dLive mixing system appeared at London's O2 arena recently, with King Charles supporting Mumford & Sons on their UK tour.

King Charles front-of-house engineer Jon Lewis employed a dLive S3000 console with an A&H DM64 mixrack for FOH, with an Allen & Heath GLD Chrome mixer handling monitor duties. Powerful beyond its diminutive size, the 20 fader, 12" touch-screen equipped S3000 allows for up to 120 fader strips and extremely fast workflow.

UK - TG Baker (Sound) has carried out a complete overhaul of the PA system at New York Stadium in Yorkshire, home of Rotherham United FC (aka 'The Millers'), using a Harman stadium sound solution comprising of JBL loudspeakers and Crown amplification. Although the stadium has only been open since the start of the 2012-13 season, various shortcomings with the sound system were identified which had led to complaints in relation to the system's overall quality and intelligibility.

UK - A ground-breaking new degree course in live sound production has been announced by Britannia Row Productions Training (BRPT), the skills training operation set up by one of the UK's leading audio rental houses, Britannia Row Productions. This unique degree course will give students an intense and comprehensive guide to everything they need to prepare themselves for a career in live sound production, the company says.

The programme is the result of a long period of discussion and planning between BRPT and South Thames College (STC). The Course will be run by STC and validated by the University of Northampton, with BRPT's industry professionals delivering the master class lectures throughout the course. On The Campaign Trail - Adele has issued a statement to distance herself from Donald Trump, after he used her music at his rallies. The Republican presidential candidate, whose slogan is "Make America great again", has recently been playing Adele's hit Rolling In The Deep as his "warm-up" music. "Adele has not given permission for her music to be used for any political campaigning," her spokesman confirmed.

It is not the first time Trump has been criticised for appropriating pop songs. Lawyers for Aerosmith star Steven Tyler sent Trump's campaign a cease-and-desist letter last year, after the politician played the band's hit single Dream On at numerous rallies around the US.

Italy - The ancient Roman amphitheatre in Verona was the magnificent setting for Intimissimi on Ice, a sumptuous evening of music and dance on a vast iced stage that covered nearly half the arena floor. Designed in the classical amphitheatre style, the two-thousand year old stone structure is elliptical in shape, with the outer walls standing about seventeen metres in height. The audience was seated in the remaining half of the arena floor and on seating built into the steeply tiered bleachers of the original structure. Beautiful and atmospheric certainly, yet presenting quite a challenge for sound reinforcement.
