Australia – A flightcase full of Green-GO headsets and beltpacks kept TV crews connected for Australia’s first commercial space launch recently, as NASA launched from Arnhem Space Centre (ASC) in the sparsely populated Northern Territory.
Broadcaster BIE Creative was challenged with producing a livestream of the build-up to the launch and of the launch itself, which was hosted on the Equatorial Launch Australia (ELA) YouTube page. It was ELA’s first collaboration with NASA, which chose their spaceport to fire a BBIX rocket, carrying an atmospheric observation/sensing platform to observe the AlphaCentauri constellations.

USA - Bandit Lites has made a substantial investment in new gear with a recent purchase of hundreds of Claypaky fixtures. Fixtures added to Bandit's touring inventory include: the Xtylos Mini HPS, the Xtylos and the Volero Wave.
The Xtylos is a compact beam moving light with unique optical and chromatic characteristics, making use of a tailor-made RGB laser source that lasts for 20,000 hours. The Mini Xtylos HPS a smaller compact version, while still boasting the same saturated, deep colours. The Volero Wave is making its debut with Bandit.

Japan - On 25 September, Skymagic delivered a one-of-a-kind drone light show in Yumeshima, Osaka for the Expo 2025 three year countdown event, attracting around 15,000 spectators from the ground below. Consisting of 800 drones, the display was one of the largest drone light shows Japan has ever seen.
The start of the show saw the official character of the Osaka Kansai Expo, Myaku Myaku, illuminate the sky as a 135m-high image, followed by a dynamic countdown and the vibrant Let’s Go Expo 2025 logo.
The rest of the show depicted stunning formations of life in a diverse array of forms, including creatures from nature, symbols of traditional Japanese culture and motifs unique to Osaka, collectively telling the story of the Expo’s theme: Designing a Future Society for our Lives, and celebrating the brilliance and diversity of life. USA - SMPTE, the international society for media professionals, technologists, and engineers, has awarded the 2022 Samuel L. Warner Memorial Medal to John Meyer, the co-founder, president, and CEO of Meyer Sound.
According to a SMPTE statement, the honour was bestowed “in recognition of his contributions to the design, measurement, and analysis of cinema speaker electronics for cinema mixing, review, and exhibition facilities.” Formal presentation of the award will take place at the SMPTE Awards Gala, to be held on 27 October at the Loews Hollywood Hotel.

Europe - Clear-Com has announced the appointment of Andreas Schick to the applications engineering team in EMEA. Andreas holds the title of applications egineer II and brings 10+ years of professional experience in the AV industry to his role at Clear-Com.
Andreas previously worked as a commissioning engineer at Salzbrenner, a Germany-based systems contractor for AV and media technology. His role allowed him the opportunity to work at a number of venues around the world, including music and production theaters, state parliaments, and even the Sydney Opera House. Notably, he helped implement a new stage management and audio system in the Bolshoi Academic State Theatre in Moscow, as well as the stage management system for the State Opera of Berlin, which included a Clear-Com system.

USA - The fifth annual Elements Music and Arts Festival took place at a new site less than a two-hour drive from Mid-Town Manhattan, adjacent to the NASCAR Pocono Raceway, but as far as fans at this three-day event were concerned, it could have taken place a million miles from anywhere.
