UK - MultiTouch Ltd has announced that the new Cornerstone 2, the company's own software development kit (SDK), will be available free of charge and supports hardware platforms other than MultiTouch's own MultiTaction Cell product line.

Alex Fernandes, a student at the University of Edinburgh, has won this year's Michael Northen Bursary (MNB), picking up a £500 cash award at a special presentation at PLASA London today.

The Bursary is awarded annually to a student or recent graduate who has demonstrated strong, imaginative and creative lighting designs. It is organised by the Association of Lighting Designers, a professional body representing lighting designers in the live performance industry.

Northen was both a former Chairman and President of the ALD and the first credited Lighting Designer in the UK.

Each year an award of £500 is presented to a young lighting designer who has shown excellence in the field of lighting design. The project must be a performance-based lighting design in or out of the college environment. Two runner-up prizes of £250 each are also presented: an ETC sponsored award

GLP's Udo Künzler and Mark Ravenhill have supplied the College with six Impression 90 LED moving heads on a long term loan. The units have been installed in the college's unique lighting training and research laboratories, and are available to the lighting design students for projects as well as to augment their designs for a range of innovative lighting projects.

Germany - The Audio Engineering Society (AES) has announced the dates and location for its upcoming 136th International Convention: Saturday 26 April, through Tuesday, 29 April, 2014, in Berlin, Germany. The Convention's 'Call for Papers' will be available in the coming months, and AES will be accepting proposals for abstract-precis-reviewed and peer-reviewed papers.

USA - ADJ companies American DJ Supply and Elation Professional have reached an out of court settlement with American Lighting, Inc. and its Hong Kong-based parent company, Neo-Neon, involving a trademark infringement lawsuit. Under terms of the agreement, American Lighting and Neo-Neon have agreed to stop selling special effects lighting products and distributing marketing material that use the names "American," "Revo" and "E-Pro" in the US market.

The ADJ companies initiated legal action against American Lighting in 2012, charging it with trademark infringement and unfair competition under the Lanham Act. Neo-Neon was later added to ADJ's lawsuit, which centered on the use of the names "American,' "Revo" and "E-Pro" on special effects and entertainment lighting products intended to compete with the ADJ Group's American DJ

The winner of the prestigious Gottelier Award was also announced at the ceremony.

The PLASA Awards for Innovation recognise products that advance the industry by demonstrating a new style of thinking, improving technical practice or taking a key step forward in terms of safety. During the show's opening two days, 45 new products were judged 'live' by an independent panel of expert judges who toured the show floor to view each product presentation.
