USA - The systems design and integration experts at Clearwing Productions last year overhauled the Phoenix Zoo's annual seasonal spectacular ZooLights, transforming a linear roadside display into an immersive, 360-degree audio and lighting experience that encircled the zoo's central water lagoon. The advanced audio system from Technomad performed so well that zoo officials opted to use the system year round, delivering multi-zone background and event music to visitors across the lagoon area.

The Phoenix Zoo initially hired Clearwing Productions to increase the production value of the annual lighting show, though the two teams quickly determined that the audio system was underperforming - not to mention falling apart.

"The Phoenix area is inundated with sun and UV rays, which is very tough on outdoor products," said Nick Pitman, service and systems engineer,

Denmark - Martin Professional, Kollision and Transform Architects have completely refurbished the exterior of the Confederation of Danish Industry building in Copenhagen, which now boasts a beautiful façade, highlighted by an ever-changing LED media surface for a more engaging and emotional presence.

The location of the building was the main reason for a media façade solution, as it sits in Copenhagen at Rådhuspladsen, where outdoor advertising has been an integral part of the area for more than 100 years.

Transform architect Lars Bendrup said, "This LED media façade was the next logical step. It's an entirely new way of communicating through the language of light. Confederation of Danish Industry is showing a new face - one that reflects dynamism and change."

The media façade incorporates 4,000m of Martin Professional's VC-Strip in a customised outdoor soluti

Korea - Reputed to be the largest Presbyterian church in the world, Myoungseong (Myungsung) Church recently built a new main sanctuary next to its original building in Seoul, South Korea. Now able to host up to 7000 worshippers at a time, a pair of DiGiCo SD7 consoles are an integral part of its services.

Established by pastor Kim Sam-Hwan in 1980, Myoungseong is one of the best known churches in South Korea. UK - For the first time the PLASA 2013 was held at London's ExCeL. "We heard very different opinions about this relocation in the run-up and thus set out for London in a pretty neutral mood," says Peter Rieck, key account & distribution manager with Sommer Cable. The on-site impressions definitely had to be judged as really good. However, we felt that - compared to the previous years - there were fewer exhibitors in the sound technology sector, but then again there were visitors from all specialist fields.

Continuess Rieck, "My sentiment with regard to the overall number of visitors is highly positive - due to our location directly opposite the entrance we were able to keep a weather eye on this. I felt that Monday and Tuesday were the days with the highest attendance figures; we've booked again for next year already. Meet'n'Greet has priority at PLASA, so we coul

"The ceilings in the main room are over eight meters high at some points, and the dance floor is under a dome," notes Magued Makram, president of Modern Touch. "It was very hard to generate the high SPLs we wanted without hitting reflective walls and the ceiling. Fortunately, the Meyer Sound JM-1P had exactly the right combination of high power, superb sonic quality, and the precise directional pattern we needed."

The club's main system targets the dance floor and adjacent seating areas with twin-flown clusters of three-each JM-1P loudspeakers, with four 600-HP subwoofers floo

Carotenuto - who has worked for RAI for 30 years and currently lights shows and events for their OB Unit all over Italy - used 35 LEDWash 1200s to illuminate the audience in this instance.

The 30 x LEDBeam 100s were used in two 6x9 matrixes either side of the upstage LED screens. They provided intense back-beam effects for certain camera shots - for which they were highly effective.
