UK - Funktion-One and three of its rental network partners delivered audio solutions to Sonic, Arcadia, and WOW at the UK's biggest festival, continuing a relationship that began during Glastonbury's formative moments in the early 1970s.

Audio Plus worked closely with Funktion-One to design an audio spec for Sonic, which presented some unusual challenges. Audio Funktion made sure that the aural spectacle matched the visual extravaganza at Arcadia. And Audio X supplied the sound to WOW, which, like Sonic, formed part of the Silver Hayes area.

Sonic was built by Silver Stage, using its SaddleSpan modular truss framework. Structured in a three-pronged-shape - essentially a Y with a short stem - it presented an intriguing space for festival goers and a rather challenging environment for the audio specialists. Tony Andrews worked with Audio Plus' owner Stefan Imhof and project mana

UK - This year the teams from Avolites and Avolites Media were not only blessed with the sunniest festival in years but also the joy of witnessing the proliferation of new Avolites consoles around the site.

Taking pride of place at most front of house positions was either an Avolites ultrafast Sapphire Touch, Tiger Touch, Tiger Touch Pro or Expert Pro. Meanwhile quietly operating backstage Avolites T4 Dimmers kept lighting control running smoothly.

In addition, and increasingly present year on year, Avolites Media's Ai Media consoles, Infinity 8 and T8 Media Servers delivered stunning visuals and special effects for a number of world class acts at stages including: The Other Stage, Arcadia, Dance and Shangrila.

France - The historic Indochine tour, which will take place over two years, debuted at mid-sized venues in France in March. It has gradually become more and more impressive in size occupying ever more important concert locations and triumphing at the Stade de France.

It is an original event lit by the staff of Concept-K, whose young lighting designer Thomas Déchandon put together an unusual lighting design with a special place for Clay Paky's A.Leda Wash K20s. Their LED rings are arranged in a circular array, which is a clear reference to the tour's visual impact and recalls the oval light on the poster. The project is entirely in keeping with the times and, at the Elispace in Beauvais, it merged Clay Paky's traditional features with its brand new washlights.

The very special set of lights used was chosen from the Dushow stock for their visual effects, with the aim of p

Nigeria - Although only one year old, Mark Osho's Megavision Lighting was contracted to deliver a spectacular set for this year's Miss Nigeria pageant in Lagos - the 38th edition of this annual event.

Held at the Intercontinental Hotel, Victoria Island, in front of 2,400 of the country's leading A-list VIPs, celebrities and socialities, Osho himself based much of his lighting design around PR Lighting effects - using six each of the XR200 Beam and XLED 1037 to create the impact, along with four XLED 336 and 12 PR348.

Working within a set designed by Bolaji Durojaiye of Equally Diverse Solutions, the fixtures were mounted on three sided trussing, measuring 5m (H) x 9m (W) x 13m (L) and mixed with discharge and other LED bars, helped deliver a vibrant colour canvas of blue and purple. The show itself was run from an Avolite Pearl Tiger 2010 console.

UK - A revolutionary sound system and reoriented stage provided the winning recipe for the AEG-Barclaycard British Summer Time festival at London's Hyde Park, as Bon Jovi and the Rolling Stones kicked off the ten-day season.

Historically dogged by offsite noise pollution, this led to neighbourhood complaints and the need to reduce sound levels on site - meaning that the audience couldn't hear the performances. And so new tenants AEG/Loud Sound adopted Martin Audio's Multi-Cellular Loudspeaker Array (MLA) system to help solve the problem.

Knowing that its advance level of control would be the only scientifically proven system capable of maintaining an offsite level beneath the stipulated 75dB(A) threshold, there was the equal confidence of being able to raise the levels up by as much as 6dB from previous years to around 100dB(A) within the audience area, ensuring that the entir

USA - Mumford & Sons, continue their action packed touring schedule, having just finished a string of Canadian and US shows - where Robe LEDWash moving lights were once again a prominent feature on the lighting rig designed by New York based LD, Ed Warren of Next Level Lights.

Warren has been working with the band for the last four and a half years and the starting point for this instalment of the on-going tour was "Let's kick some serious festival ass with true tungsten power".

For at least the past 12 months, Warren's lighting rig for the band has contained continual evolutions based on different variants of tungsten lighting. He is a big fan of its softness, subtleties and specific qualities.

For this latest Canadian / US section he incorporated 16 Robe Robin 600 LEDWashes and 14 Robe Robin 1200 LEDWashes into the design, which were supplied by lighting and soun

China - Visual Productions has confirmed a distribution partnership with Advance Communication Equipment (ACE) for the Chinese market.

This new partnership began during the Prolight+Sound show in Frankfurt earlier this year, when senior vice president Bingo Tso and business manager Dicky Ling visited the Visual Productions' stand. Seeing the range of innovative and smart lighting control solutions available from Visual Productions, a product demonstration was arranged for all the ACE team available at the show.

Director of Visual Productions, Maarten Engels, talked them through the controllers including the new B-Station and CueluxPro software. In agreement about the market opportunities available with both the Live controllers and the solid-state range on the Chinese market, both ACE and Visual Productions have not stopped since.

More than 100,000 tickets sold online, while the rest were bought by phone, post or in person from the Albert Hall. BBC Proms director Roger Wright described the "record-breaking" sales as a "thrill".

Wright, who is also the controller of BBC Radio 3, added that there were still tickets available for the "vast majority of events" and that "you can always come and Prom on the day&

USA - grandMA2 consoles proved to be country strong when they turned out in force for the 2013 CMT Music Awards at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville. Lighting designer Tom Kenny used six grandMA2 full-size for the gala special, which was hosted by Kristen Bell and Jason Aldean.

"The CMT Music Awards is a huge event on the music calendar and gets bigger and bigger every year. It outshines every other awards show," says Kenny.

Kenny partnered with production designer Ann Brahic, who marked her fifth year with the show. "She designed a set that was a very modern scape. It went along with the theme of the show: a cross-cultural look at country music," he explains. "People loved it. Ann really understands lighting, and we have a great relationship."

VER supplied Kenny with 140 Clay Paky Sharpys for inside and outside the arena. Two grandMA2 consoles

The upgraded WPS line can manufacture boards up to 1.3m long x 0.6m wide, for the growing opportunity in LED lighting, retail displays and digital signage. It is the first line in the country that can manufacture such long boards fully automatically, including the critical screen printing stage. According to WPS, the line will also be used to manufacture boards of more standard dimensions. The investment increases WPS assembly capacity to 140,000 components per hour.

UK - The first music festival to be promoted by an industry technical production company - Chilfest by Universal Event Productions (UEP) - was "a resounding success".

Music fans enjoyed two days of entertainment. The pop themed Friday night was headlined by Little Mix, The Lovable Rogues, Heather Small and others, followed by the best of the eighties on the Saturday - Tony Hadley, Rick Astley, Howard Jones, Midge Ure, Hazel O'Connor and Carol Decker.

All of this was delivered complete with the very highest in production values by UEP who supplied sound, lighting and video equipment and design.

UEP's Steve Butcher - who came up with the ambitious idea to celebrate the Tring based company's 15th birthday - was "completely blown away" with the response and the outcome.

"We set out to do something special to celebrate an important company landmark and

Australia - Indie pop duo/couple Matt & Kim who hail from Brooklyn, New York, have just toured Australia as part of the Groovin' The Moo festival. Lighting designer Ian Lyles uses a Jands Vista L5 console for the arena, club and theatre shows that the band play in America and so when he found out that he would be visiting Australia, Lyles made calling into Jands HQ a priority. He was particularly keen to see the Vista M1 and S1 consoles.

"We were interested in trying out the Vista S1 as we're thinking of buying an M1 or S1 for our small Catalyst rig in the US," said Lyles. "We run bullet security cameras as iMag along with content running on Resolume from our playbacks rack. I was also intrigued to see if I could run a larger show, such as an arena show, on a smaller console like the Vista S1."

Jands kindly lent Ian a Vista S1 console for the Groovin' The M

A morning nine-hole Texas Scramble was followed by an 18-hole individual stableford competition won by Bihesh Patel of Pinnerton Video Systems Ltd.

The day's golf was followed by an evening charity dinner, raising donations for The Caron Keating Foundation, set-up to help many cancer charities in the UK. Caron's mother Gloria Hunniford attended the dinner and thanked guests for their support.

In total the Sennheiser Challenge Trophy raised £16,500 for The Caron Keating Foundation as well as additional £3,000 for the Diabetes UK charity.

Commenting on the day, Steve Dalton, director of marketing for Sennheiser UK said, "This was a great day, blessed by excellent weather. Everyone had a ter

USA - Special Event Services (SES) deployed an immense Outline GTO-based sound system for the 2013 Justin Moore Outlaws Like Me concert tour, presented at major arenas and concert venues across the country.

With Outline's exclusive OpenArray 3D Simulation Software, SES employed the company's integrated flying hardware system to achieve audience coverage and uniform, sterling sound quality at each stop. This setup was elemental to delivering the excitement of Justin Moore's performances for both his heavy country rock hits and emotional ballads.

"The most significant aspect of the Outline system that we used for Justin Moore is that it replicates everything I give it without coloration," says Jeff Oliver, front-of-house engineer for Justin Moore. "Every stage source, from all the guitar amps and microphones, to the drum kit and Justin's vocals, are faithfu

USA - In Hollywood, entrepreneurial brothers Jonnie and Mark Houston are reinventing the nightlife scene from bottle service nightclubs to cocktail-focused themed venues. They currently operate a number of nightspots including the Cuban rum bar-themed La Descarga, the atmospheric Paris-themed Pour Vous and the Hollywood Piano Bar.

Their latest incarnation is No Vacancy, paying homage to Old Hollywood with a historic renovation of what the bar once was - a Victorian period house built in the early 1900s.

While other venue concepts have been inspired by trips abroad, No Vacancy is closer to the hearts of the twin brothers who grew up in the neighbourhood.

"We restored the house as much as we could and brought it back to life with every little detail from the knobs to the antique wallpapers from the 1930s," notes brother Mark in a recent interview. "The redesign

Australia - Chart topping Australian singer/songwriter Guy Sebastian is using Robe moving lights on his 47-date Get Along Australian tour, the latest stage in his impressive career, which has been nothing less than supersonic since winning the first Australian Idol back in 2003.

Ramus has worked with Sebastian for about two years. He was given an open brief to come up with a flexible and dynamic scheme to help make the show rock on this one, the start of the live campaign to promote Sebastian's latest number one album 'Armageddon' which is already double platinum!

UK - Two Allen & Heath iLive digital mixing systems managed FOH and monitors for a special performance by the band, People's String Foundation, held at the Minack open-air theatre in Cornwall to mark a forthcoming album launch.

The 12-strong band debuted all tracks from its new album, due for release this summer, accompanied by a ten-piece orchestra.

"Positioned on a cliff top, the open-air amphitheatre was a logistical challenge, requiring a mixer that would fit with the rest of the PA in a van small enough to negotiate the narrow lanes leading to the venue but could also handle the 50 plus channel count," comments FOH engineer, Tommy Williams.

An iLive-T80 surface with iDR-48 MixRack was selected at monitors, expanded with an xDR-16 to handle the microphones from the string section. The xDR expander had an M-MADI card fitted for multi-track recording of the show
