Hungary - Hungary is currently seeing major investment in state-of-the-art entertainment and corporate venues. After the €22m Kodály Centre in Pécs, which features a major Yamaha audio installation, comes another multi-million Euro venue, the RaM Colosseum in the country's capital Budapest.

As well as housing the city's biggest theatre, the RaM Colosseum also features three gyms, clubs, a library and restaurant, all connected by a central atrium. A major feature is that the theatre has a unique, hydraulically-operated adjustable floor which allows it to be adapted for a variety of events. The audio system is based around a Yamaha M7CL-48ES and SB168-ES stage boxes.

USA - Bosch Security Systems, Inc., Communications Systems Division recently named Bob Rieder as its new product marketing manager for pro sound - install. Rieder will support the Americas region by developing and implementing marketing strategies for Electro-Voice installed audio product lines.

Rieder brings a wide range of industry experience to his new position, having worked extensively in the pro audio industry and, internationally, as a radio producer and host. After working at Jensen in OEM loudspeaker design, Rieder moved into a marketing role at Shure, serving as category director for their install product lines, including wired and wireless mics, DSP, mixers, and PSM monitor systems. Rieder added an MBA to his electrical engineering and music degrees, and worked in market research and consulting before joining Bosch/Electro-Voice.

USA - The athletes at Eastern Pennsylvania's Moravian College returned to school this September to find their familiar Steel Field complex radically transformed. The $2.6m renovation project created a new sports facility, including an expanded and resurfaced Timothy Breidegam Track, a new playing surface on Rocco Calvo Field, renewed bleachers, a new scoreboard, and a new high output full-range, horn-loaded R-Series loudspeaker system by Community Professional Loudspeakers.

Hungary - dBTechnologies DVA loudspeakers flanked the stage recently at the new Mercedes-Benz plant in Kecskemét in Hungary. A total of six DVA T4 speakers (three each side) and two DVA S10 subwoofers were supplied by dBTechnologies' retailer Prodyn on 23 July when Formula One drivers Nico Rosberg and Michael Schumacher found time to visit the factory in the week before the Hungarian Grand Prix at the Hungaroring.

"It was very easy to set up the system; we only needed three quarters of an hour from unloading the lorry to sound check," said Janos Szabo, owner of Prodyn L. "The speeches and background music needed reinforcing within a 30m x 60m area, and the roof height was 4m. The audience size was somewhere in the region of 800-1000 people.

Festival Funding - Edinburgh festival-goers could be asked to volunteer to pay extra for tickets in a bid to help raise money for the city to host major events. Jenny Dawe, Edinburgh City Council's leader, said a box to tick to add a "small percentage" could be added to online booking forms. She said she there was "generally no objection" if people knew the money was going to improve venues. Sales of tickets at this year's Edinburgh Fringe were up by 3% on 2010. According to figures released by the Fringe Society, 1,877,119 tickets were sold by its box office over the festival.

USA - American Music & Sound has announced the appointment of Dave Hetrick to the position of national sales manager for Beyer Dynamic, Fostex, and Alpine in the United States.

Hetrick is a singer/songwriter/musician with considerable experience in the recording and engineering world and comes to AM&S as the previous director of worldwide sales for KRK / Cerwin Vega Group.

Slovenia - Musician and media personality Anja Bukovec has been using a DPA 4099V instrument clip mic for her live appearances. The microphone was provided by Sonus, DPA's distributor in Slovenia.

"After trying several different pickups and microphones over the years, I can only say that I'm more than happy with my new DPA 4099," says Bukovec. Switzerland - Genelec 4000 Series active loudspeakers feature in a recent refurbishment project at the University of Zurich. Eleven new classrooms have been created at a University campus site in the city, with Genelec's installation-friendly speakers providing the sound element to complement the new audio visual equipment installation.

The University of Zurich, is the largest university in Switzerland, with over 25,000 students attending a diverse range of courses. The campus is spread across many buildings located across the city. The new teaching facility is part of the Film Studies Faculty and in acquiring the space the University took the opportunity to create a 21st Century teaching environment complete with a top quality audio visual installation. USA - The 70-year-old, 10,000-seat Abbott Memorial Stadium in Alabama is an historic treasure to Tuskegee University and its alumni. The university, in alignment with ongoing stadium preservation, recently added a Technomad Turnkey PA system with six Technomad Berlin weatherproof loudspeakers. The system plays out intelligible voice and high-quality music across four zones and long distances for football games, graduations and other stadium events.

UK - A.C Entertainment Technologies (AC-ET)'s Audio division has supplied a new Sennheiser radio microphone system to St Albans based Insync Productions, a busy AV supplier and providers of technical production, design and rental services, specialising in corporate and live events.

The time came for Insync to upgrade their existing radio mic system, and with the digital switchover on the horizon next year, they were keen to ensure that their investment was fully Channel 38 compliant.

Sennheiser is one of a number of premium audio brands for which AC-ET is a distributor. The purchase was co-ordinated by Glen Thompson from the company's High Wycombe office with Insync's MD, Scott Tompkins and head of sound, Ali McGrattan.

Greece - Thirty years after Pink Floyd first performed the Roger Waters written spectacular The Wall, Roger Waters has been touring a new version of the show, complete with extravagant 3D animations, pyrotechnics and inflatables.

While the original production cost around £1 million to stage and was so big that it could only take in three cities, its 21st century counterpart has reputedly cost £37m and has been performed a total of 120 times at venues all around North America and Europe.

This spectacular tour culminated in Athens in July, where Waters performed three shows at the 2004 Olympic Stadium. These were captured for posterity by a crew of nearly 100 people just to tackle the filming, making this the biggest European concert film project for nearly 30 years. Spain - During three days in July the Low Cost Festival in Benidorm featured large crowds and more than 50 bands playing. Highlights of this year's event were acts including Ok Go, Crystal Castles, Eli 'Paperboy' Reed, FM Belfast, Sexy Sadie, Sidonie, Dorian, and Mika.

The Low Cost Festival boasts three main stages and this year Stage 2 was powered by an RCF TT+ sound system.

RCF product specialist Oscar Mora was at the festival to provide assistance to the rental company and FOH engineers.

Serbia / Belgium - The Vojvodina clinical centreprovides emergency and regular health care for the city of Novisad and Vojvodina, the northern province of Serbia. The hospital was completed in 2010. The hospital also houses research and housing facilities of the University of Novi Sad.

The hospital presently counts 1300 beds and a staff of more than 2700. On a surface of more than 9500m² there are: 360 APart CM6SF ceiling speakers with fire dome, 50 CM3T mini ceiling speakers and 120 EVOL20 volume controls.

Norway - For the fourth year running, Norwegian PA company, Sceneservice, provided sound, light and staging for the Blues in Hell Festival, selecting Allen & Heath iLive digital mixing systems for FOH and monitors.

The festival derives its name from the location, which is the village of Hell in the Nord-Trondelag area of Norway. The main festival venue is the Magic Mirror, a spectacular tent from the Belgian Company, Magic Mirrors, which hosted headline performances from artists including Delbert McClinton, Johnny Winter, Popa Chubby and Jeniva Magness.

Sceneservice selected an iDR10 MixRack with iLive-144 Control Surface for FOH, and an iDR-32 MixRack and a xDR-16 expander rack with iLive-T80 Surface for monitors. There was also an analogue split to provide a broadcast feed.

Italy - A range of Fohhn loudspeaker systems, DSP-controlled amplifiers and the new PS-9 high-powered active subwoofer were selected for sound reinforcement at the recent Notti di Luce festival in Bergamo, Italy.

The festival is a celebration of light and music, with many events taking place in various venues. A series of live concerts featuring classical, pop and rock music was held in the Piazza Matteotti, which has an audience capacity of over 10,000. The main stage area was exclusively equipped with Fohhn's high quality systems.

Two sets of 12 PT-9 line arrays were flown either side of the stage, with a dozen PT-8 compact line array systems used for near-field and side field areas. Fohhn's X-Series XT-10 systems were also used to provide front-fills for covering the first few audience rows, while XM-4 wedges provided on-stage monitoring for the performers.

Gallagher, who previously held the position of SBD general manager and has been with the company for the past 11 years, will take on the role of business development and client relations.

UK - Rhondda-based AB Acoustics, one of Wales' leading suppliers of audio equipment for hire, sales or installation, have increased their inventory of EAW components, with the acquisition of the compact KF730 line array and more powerful KF740 system.

Established in 1989, the company headed by Huw 'Buzz' Evans and Rob Ashton had been running EAW's popular KF750 as its premier system for the past eight years.
