Austria - dBLuX has been appointed the Austrian distributor for LSC Lighting. Following the appointment, Thorsten Sattler of dBLux visited the LSC Melbourne headquarters to undertake three days of intensive training on the LSC range of lighting equipment.

UK - Digital media specialist Projected Image Digital has supplied the Hard Rock Café London with a bespoke Element Labs VersaTILE installation for their newly refurbished Basement Bar. Hard Rock Café London, the first and most famous venue of this landmark brand, has just reopened after extensive renovations. Its interior was designed by Paula Reason of Cadmium Design, a London-based designer involved in creating many of the Hard Rock Café interiors worldwide.

Reason wanted a central light feature in the bar to continue an ongoing theme of using light to interact 'live' with the people within specific Hard Rock spaces. This had been started at previous Hard Rock projects and has taken many different formats. However for the new-look London venue she wanted something completely different.

UK - Blitz provided technical staging expertise for The Gordon Ramsay Scholarship Award held recently. Blitz supplied equipment for both the Final at the Restaurant Show in Olympia and for the awards ceremony at the Claridge's Ballroom. The Scholarship was created in 2001 by Gordon Ramsay to encourage and recognise the talents of young cooks across Britain.

Blitz's equipment included 61" and 42" plasma screens, DV cameras, a PA system and lapel mics. At the Restaurant Show the DV camcorders were placed to catch all the action taking place within the Cookery Theatre. The close ups were relayed to the plasma screens and the footage was edited onsite using an Avid for the evening's Awards Ceremony at Claridges.

China - China's third 'Love & Share' Beach Party was recently held at Haibin Beach, Zhuhai, using an Allen & Heath GL3800 multi-purpose live sound mixer and a Xone:62 DJ mixer to manage the numerous musical acts performing during the two-day event.

The party - a highlight of the National 'Golden Week' Holiday - was organized by the Zhuhai Tourism Administration, the Xiangzhou District Government, and the Zhuhai Broadcasting Station. The event attracted more than 20,000 visitors, who had come to see bands and DJs from Beijing, Tibet, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Macau, Australia, and USA perform a range of musical styles from rock to hip-hop.

Allen & Heath's Chinese distributor, Eastern Acoustic Development Ltd (EAD), provided the sound equipment for the event, selecting a 32-channel GL3800 for the bands, and an industry-standard Xone:62 mixer for the DJs.

The new multichannel monitoring system uses a mix of large and small active 3-way monitors from the SCM Series. Left and right speakers are SCM 150ASL Pro monitors, using 15" super-linear bass drivers to give extended bass, headroom and dynamic range. The centre channel is an ATC SCM100ASL with soft dome mid-range driver and 12" bass driver. ATC SCM50s are used for the rear channel speakers.

UK / USA - White Light's Digital Festoon System, launched at the 2004 PLASA Show where it won a PLASA Award for Innovation, found its way onto a number of UK lighting projects this summer, and is now on its way to the ETS-LDI Show in Orlando, Florida.

A radical re-think of traditional festoon lighting, the Digital Festoon System offers users the ability to individually control the level of each bulb along a length of festoon, while still being formed from a traditional two-core festoon cable.

Norway - i-Vision has supplied Norwegian lighting design and installation company Oslo Lysdesign with a mixture of their Lumos LED products for several high profile hotel projects, including the conference rooms at the newly refurbished Royal Christiana Hotel in Oslo.

Oslo Lysdesign's Gier Ove Langlo was asked to design and specify a new scheme for the conference spaces by hotel group Choice Hotels, of which the Christiana is a new flagship venue.The main conference space is a large area with sliding room dividers that break it down into three smaller spaces as required.Langlo illuminated the paths of these dividing walls from below with Lumos in-ground Spots. Around the sides of the whole room, he chose to light from the top down, using 58 of i-Vision's Lumos 3 fittings as down-lighters. UK - British Harlequin's association with The Wells Summer School has continued into a fourth year, converting three major areas used for dance at Beechwood Sacred Heart School in Tunbridge Wells into suitable performance spaces

Harlequin Cascade, which is the same flooring that The Royal Ballet dances on at The Royal Opera House, was used to cover the wooden floor in the Auditorium and also for the large marquee erected in the school grounds.

In Ireland, Redhouse's Vinnie Higgins has taken delivery of a 24-channel GB4, while over in Kilkenny Ray Brophy has added the same to his sound rig and engineer/producer Paul Gurney has installed a 16-input desk in his Longford sound studios.

On the other side of the world, Jeff Shoesmith at Jands in Australia reports that the GB4 is finding its home in a number of different locations, while inThailand, distributor, Mahajak, reports that a 24-channel GB4 has gone into Driftt Pub in Bangkok, and a similarly-configured desk has been sold to Ban Line Mai Restaurant in Phuket.

UK - It is becoming increasingly common to find live CDs on sale at venues minutes after the band leaves stage, and FX Rentals has acted as technical consultants to the first British company offering this service, Live Here Now.

FX's technical manager Adam Pope worked closely with the live to CD company at its inception, recommending that the best way for Live Here Now to proceed would be to source a soundproofed, air conditioned truck into which duplication equipment could then be installed.

After further research, and to supply the required CD output, Pope also advised Live Here Now to invest in 50 seven-bay Magellen CD duplicators, together with a total of 14 Tascam CDRW750 and HHB CDR830+ single CD-R burners for creating master CDs, plus outboard equipment including limiters and compressors. The Netherlands - In Holland, the Dutch police have adopted Marantz Professional's PMD660 Compact Digital Recorder to handle the critical job of recording interviews in interrogation rooms in police stations around the country.

The PMD660 offers exceptional recording time, three hours of mono recording on a 1GB card, but, by switching between different presets, over 17 hours of stereo MP3 and almost 36 hours of monaural MP3 audio is available.
