Denmark - Silkeborg hospital has recently decided it needed to improve conditions for staff and patients, and commissioned lighting designer Rune T°nnes to help - starting out in the radiology department.

"One of the challenges," says T°nnes, "was that, being south facing, the x-ray and MRI rooms were flooded with bright daylight. Clinicians had to pull the blinds down in order to work, but were then left with poor artificial lighting. I spoke to the operators about their needs and examined the machinery, to see how I can make their jobs easier."

In the control rooms, a certain level and temperature of lighting was necessary to ensure the monitors could be seen easily while also providing a comfortable working environment for the department, which is in use 24 hours a day, seven days a week. USA - When Barry Manilow moved his hit show from the Las Vegas Hilton to the Paris Las Vegas for a new two-year residency, the production team wanted to make a few changes to better reflect and adapt to their new home. To do so, they brought in lighting designer Chris Medvitz of Lightswitch to create an intimate yet powerful lighting design. Lightswitch then enlisted the assistance of PRG and 65 Vari*Lite luminaires from Philips Vari-Lite.

"When the production was moved from the Las Vegas Hilton to the Paris Las Vegas, everyone wanted to create a new look and feel for the show so that they could really compete against the larger Vegas shows that were established on the strip," says Medvitz. "Barry had never done a theatrical-type show before, so they felt this was a great opportunity to capitalize on the intimate 1500-seat Paris Théâtre."

UK - Robert Juliat's new LED profile, the Aledin, was put through its paces by a succession of technicians at the Edinburgh Fringe this year at C venues C aquila in the Roman Eagle Lodge on Johnston Terrace.

C venues is one of the largest of the Fringe's venue producers and C aquila its latest venue. Like many of the Fringe venues, C aquila is a 'made' space so operated off very limited power supplies. Two theatre spaces, a box office, catering and bar facilities had to run off only one 63A single phase.

A team, consisting of head of hire and events for Northern Light Nick Read, artistic director and lighting designer Hartley Kemp, journalist Sara Rushton-Read and C venues production manager, Richard Williamson, approached the design for lighting the spaces with a special purpose in mind - to run the entire venue from low energy sources which would in no way restrict the creat

Australia - Queensland's Coorparoo State School has recently unveiled its new multipurpose hall which seats up to 500 people and everyone is delighted with the results.

"We are very proud of our new state-of-the-art performing arts hall and we are extremely grateful to have our new performance space fitted out with professional stage lighting equipment installed by an expert team," remarked Jo Young, music co-ordinator for Coorparoo State School.

The three organisations are sharing stand M-14; the stand is located immediately behind the White Light Zone in Earls Court 2.

WISE, an organisation established to address the representation of women in the entertainment technology sector, will step from their stand onto the White Light Stand from 4pm to 6pm each day to host Tea O-Clock. A WISE spokesman says, "Each day WISE members from all sectors - sound, AV, lighting, rigging - will offer PLASA Show visitors a calm oasis from the frenetic show floor. UK - Winners of the 2010 PLASA Awards for Innovation, and the 2010 Gottelier Award, were announced yesterday evening in a special presentation at PLASA 2010 in Earls Court, London - after a hotly contested nomination process that saw 62 products entered and six contenders for the Gottelier Award.

The Awards for Innovation, for the first time, were judged 'live' at the Innovation Gallery by an independent panel of 16 expert judges, in front of show visitors and a camera team on Sunday 12 September. Show visitors are able to watch the judging process replayed on large screens in the interactive Innovation Gallery for the rest of the show.

Help For Heroes - Robbie Williams and Gary Barlow have performed live together for the first time in 15 years. The Take That pair, who announced this year they were working together again, performed their new single Shame at a Help For Heroes concert in London.

Earlier, Barlow and Williams said: "It's great that people like Shame so much and we can't wait to perform it live for the first time." Also in the line-up were Tom Jones, Alexandra Burke and Pixie Lott. The concert, which took place at Twickenham Stadium also featured comic talent including Bruce Forsyth, Peter Kay, Michael McIntyre and Jack Dee.

Some 60,000 people were at the event - including 150 personnel injured in combat who attended the show free of charge. Proceeds will go to the Help For Heroes charity, which raises funds for wounded troops and their families.
