The lighting for the project was designed by noted concert and event lighting designer Durham Marenghi, whose other work ranges from the opening of London St Pancras Station to the London 2012 Handover at the Beijing Olympics, through his architectural design firm Lumitect. The M-PC Pro, which replaces the original Maxxyz PC, includes all the features of the Maxxyz PC plus all new features from the new M1 console. In addition, M-PC Pro has been upgraded from 32 to 64 DMX universes over standard Artnet or by using the Martin USB DUO DMX, making it some of the most powerful PC-based lighting software ever made.

For budget-oriented applications, the M-PC Basic offers the same feature set as the M-PC Pro but can generate a maximum of eight DMX universes.

Declan Randall from Congo Blue worked closely with Montecasino's David Butcher to come up with an appropriate lighting design. Montecasino is a popular Tuscan/Italian styled entertainment and casino destination in Johannesburg. Pillars with wooden beams and greenery form part of the décor in the pit area, creating a vineyard feel, and Randall opted to illuminate the pillars with an LED solution.

The brief was to create a lighting scheme to enhance the area around Pit 1 and attract people's attention as they walked past, without simultaneously distracting the players.

The Sharpy, just one of several new products launched in the US, impressed both judges and visitors with its parallel, zero-degree beam of light. The breakthrough concept produces a massive, stadium-sized beam from a miniature package weighing just 16kg.

While the renovation restored the historic theatre's façade and interior to their original splendour, the stage has also received attention. Designed by London based Zaha Hadid Architects, Guangzhou Opera House has been created as a leading 'palace of art', and a landmark of both the city's new development and Guangzhou's cultural status.

Based around a 'twin boulder' design, the venue consists of an 1800-seat opera house and 400-seat multi-functional theatre. These will run a broad programme encompassing ballet, symphony orchestral music, experimental drama and artistic and cultural exchange.

LTP was commissioned by developers Dandara, who co-ordinated the construction and delivery of the bridge, an eye-catching addition to Hemel Hempstead's new contemporary town centre 'Image' development.

The lighting rig, supplied by Chameleon Touring Systems, is heavily dominated by Vari*Lites including 50 x VL3000 Spot, 12 x VL2000 Spot, 14 x VL3500 Wash, 30 x VL2000 Wash, 16 x VL3000 Wash and 14 x VL500 Wash.

"The Vari*Lites are my preferred light for television," states Anderson. "Their optics are very clean and their light output is bright and crisp particularly out of the VL3000.

"We have replaced five of the standard gobos to allow some different break-up looks and a couple of old favourites like the cone gobo which we've used heaps. The zoom range on the VL3000 Spots is great from very narrow up to a nice wide for soft gobo looks. They offer great flexibility, the colours are good and they are quick. In terms of the
