Italy - The De Sisti organisation has announced, with deep regret, that the company's founder, president and CEO, Mario De Sisti passed away on Friday, 31 October 2014. His funeral takes place today in Rome.

The company says: "The lighting industry has lost a true pioneer, inventor, and true ambassador. There was no-one more charismatic or passionate about his family, business or the industry.

"Mario was highly dedicated and inhaled lighting with every breath. His enthusiasm and vigour was contagious.

"Mario travelled the World and considered most of his friends as if they were family. There was no one with a bigger heart and higher level of excitement and dedication to the lighting industry.

USA - PLASA will present the 2014 Volunteer of the Year Award to Bill Ellis for his work with the Control Protocols Working Group (CPWG) and the ad-hoc Technical Marketing Group (TMG) on Saturday, 22 November on the PLASA Booth #1469 at LDI.

The award to Bill Ellis, owner of Candela Controls, will be presented by Mike Lay, chair of the CPWG. Bill Ellis spends many volunteer hours on work for the CPWG and the ad-hoc TMG, which promotes the work of the Technical Standards Programme. He has put in an extraordinary amount of work in the preparation, set up and running of the Technical Standards portion of the PLASA booth at LDI, first with the Control Protocols Pavilion and most recently with Standards on the Stage.

When award winning film composer Hans Zimmer brought his smash-hit tour Hans Zimmer Live to North America fall 2024, the show's audio team sought out to bring infrafrequency bass to the show to add new depth to the show's audio experience. The team chose Danley Sound Labs.

Germany - Experienced production designer Cosmo Wilson fondly remembers the first time he used GLP impression fixtures: it was on AC/DC's 2008-2009 Black Ice Tour, where he lit the memorable giant train set-piece, an iconic element of the show. "I found that the saturation was stellar," he recalls. Prior to that he had been strictly a traditional 'PAR Can LD' - critical of the look of the early LED sources and throw distances.

Six years on, and with Foreigner and Styx embarking on a joint headline tour, LED technology has evolved a long way. Its permanent collection, numbering some 8m works, is among the largest and most comprehensive in existence and originates from all continents, illustrating and documenting the story of human culture from its beginnings to the present.

So when lighting designer Philip Lyons of Lyons Photography & Lighting Design Installation was appointed to install a pack generator system into two of the museum's new photographic studios, he brought Doughty Engineering on board. UK - On October 14 Tate Modern's Turbine Hall opened its doors to the largest work ever created by renowned American sculptor Richard Tuttle. Entitled I don't know - the Weave of Textile Language, Tuttle's piece combines vast swathes of fabrics to create a massive winged sculpture. Weighing in at 25 tonnes and measuring 50m long, production manager Jim Leaver faced the challenge of how to suspend the artwork - not just safely over the heads of thousands of visitors, but also to create the illusion that the piece was floating effortlessly in the air.

Leaver, who was appointed by Tate Modern to oversee the construction of the exhibit, brought Unusual Rigging on board to help develop a solution and to fulfil Tuttle's idea that those visiting the exhibition should "...feel like they're in heaven".
