New Theatre - Southwark Playhouse Elephant has become the latest theatre to open in London. The 310-seat venue in Elephant and Castle, the sister venue to Southwark Playhouse Borough, is the fruition of an idea first conceived in 2006. Among its first shows are Bermondsey Revolution, which opens on Thursday, and The Walworth Farce on 17 February.
Artistic director Chris Smyrnios said: "It's a great feeling to come to the end of the journey and to be at the beginning of a new one. Because of the regeneration, we've always been renting places and never really had a place of our own. Finally, we're in a building which is where we can set our roots, it'll be our forever home and it'll be a great place to be able to serve the community but also put on world-class theatre by new and emerging theatre practitioners."

Finland – The Cultural House Martinus in the Finnish city of Vantaa hosted a concert to raise money for sick children in December 2022. Some of Finland’s biggest stars performed in front of eight LED screens, displaying graphics driven by two Hippotizer Montane+ Media Servers. The event, known in Finnish as Kummit JouluMielelle, was broadcast live on MTV3 and recorded for streaming on-demand.
It was organised by The Association of Friends of the University Children’s hospitals charitable organisation, founded in 1993, which is a longstanding client of the event projection, graphics and immersive media experts at Visual45.

USA - The 23rd The Latin Grammy Awards, which took place at Las Vegas’ Mandalay Bay Resort’s Michelob Ultra Arena, defied easy categorisation, being big, bold, and sensuously stunning one moment, then delivering soft, intimate moments the next. This was evident right from the start of the three-hour show, as it began with a brief, but intense display of light and background music, before segueing into a tribute to Person of the Year winner, Antonio Solís, by three of the event’s co-hosts: Thalía, Luis Fonsi and Laura Pausini.
Regardless of the image it projected, each element of the diverse programme flourished for the live audience, as well as the millions watching on television, thanks to the collaborative efforts of Univision set designer Jorge Domingues, and lighting designer Tom Kenny.

USA - The St. Louis-based Pink Floyd tribute group El Monstero played seven sold-out nights at the city’s The Pageant Theatre in December, backed by a fittingly psychedelic lighting design by Chip Self using Vari-Lite VL1600 Profile luminaires from Signify.
Self, who is the founder of Midwest lighting production specialist Logic Systems, has been working with El Monstero for more than eight years, and has seen the band rise to Christmas period stardom in St. Louis. “The December 2022 shows were very production intensive, incorporating audio, video, lighting, lasers and pyrotechnics,” says Self. “Logic Systems invested in the VL1600 Profile last year, and I wanted to use them on this show because I needed a high CRI key light fixture that could keep up with the overall intensity of the show and maintain a stable look in a very wide variety of colors and light levels.

Poland - Creative visual director, lighting and multimedia designer, Paweł ‘Spider’ Pajak, of Percepto incorporated a wealth of Ayrton’s latest lighting products into Dawid Podsiadło’s three sold-out stadium shows in Poland, which included a record-breaking attendance at the Silesian Stadium in Chorzow. Singer-songwriter Podsiadło is one of Poland’s biggest touring artists with whom Spider has worked for the past ten years.

DiGiCo Quantum 338 consoles took up both the front of house and monitor positions, offering monitor engineer Oliver Weeks and FOH Mike Timm a user-friendly interface, complete channel freedom and faster processing speeds.
Both Weeks and Timm have worked with the singer for a number of years, with Timm joining in 2015, halfway through Ezra’s first album campaign, and Weeks mixing monitors since early 2018, around the start of Staying at Tamara’s, Ezra’s second studio album.
Previously using an SD10 on monitors and SD12-96 at FOH, the setup worked well until Timm started running short of channels. Both he and Weeks knew they would need to up the ante for the new album campaign.
