Reed has been show designer for the band's previous two tours, which were centred on video. For this run, he went for a more light-based show, specifying 14 of the SL eSTRIP 10 units from Bristol-based rental operation Enlightened Lighting.

"The overall concept was to take a very modern approach to the lighting, whilst maintaining the requisite menace and quirks that span the punk, new romantic and even pop genres," says Reed. "When it came to choosing fixtures Andrew Bartlett at Enlightened invited me to check out the SL eSTRIP 10 and I was sold just from looking at one unit washing a white wall in da

In keeping with the creative streak that characterizes Seattle (this is the city that gave us grunge, Windows and Amazon), Parlor Live is no ordinary comedy club. Aside from its 200-seat comedy club, this two-story venue also houses a sports bar, cocktail lounge/restaurant and meeting facility.

"From a lighting standpoint, this was really three or four different projects in one," said designer Stephen Weeks of Morgan Sound and Audiovisual who was responsible for creating a design that met the diverse demands of this venue, while

USA - Boston USA based lighting designer Jeff Maker relished the chance to use 135 Robe moving lights including 18 x BMFL Spots for a super high profile and very special one off / DVD shoot show at Wembley Arenafor lively US punk rock band, All Time Low.

The gig - their biggest ever to date in the UK - sold out in just a few days and was preceded by a short seven-date jaunt around Europe. It also came just a month after All Time Low finished a double headline UK arena tour with You Me At Six, so, with the proximity of this still in fans' minds, Jeff designed a completely new overhead lighting scheme for the Wembley event ... and retained the core high-impact floor package from the co-headline tour, adding some new elements so he could create an eye-popping new visual extravaganza that would feel great live and look awesome on camera!

On The Campaign Trail - Labour has confirmed its commitment to the arts in the party's manifesto ahead of the general election, declaring they should "belong to all and be open to all to take part in". Earlier this year Labour leader Ed Miliband vowed to place arts and culture "at the heart of the government" if the party came to power in May. In its newly published election manifesto, the party promises to work with public bodies to tackle the regional imbalance of arts funding. Labour also pledges to strengthen creative education in schools and after school clubs, and ensure that publicly funded venues "open up their doors" to young people.

As well as increasing the number of apprenticeships in the creative industries, the party has reaffirmed its commitment to creating a 'prime minister's committee' on the arts, culture and creative industries -

UK - Martin Audio has announced a significant upgrade to Display, the software brain of the MLA Series. Display is the numerical optimisation process which eliminates lengthy trial-and-error tuning sessions, so that an MLA Series system achieves the required audience coverage straight out of the box.

Based on a highly accurate acoustic model of array behaviour, it gives a very precise prediction of the direct sound produced over the audience as well as areas where sound is to be minimised. It takes the guesswork out of array design, deployment and control - generating ready-to-use DSP filter configurations and comprehensive rigging information, including mechanical load safety analysis.

The patented optimisation process evaluates thousands of potential array configurations against multiple target functions - such as frequency response, flatness and sound leakage into non-audie

Germany - Doughty Engineering's award winning Modular Rigging System will be launched in mainland Europe at Frankfurt. Doughty took its prototype range of Drop Arms and H-Frames to Frankfurt last and it was the astounding reaction and positive feedback from delegates at the show that persuaded Doughty to develop the concept.

Turn the clock forward a year and the Modular Rigging System is riding high on a wave of success, having won the ABTT Award for Engineering (again, while still only a prototype) and with demand for the range surpassing all expectations.

Mark Chorley, design engineer at Doughty, explained, "When we first set out to create this range, we knew that it had all the ingredients to become a success story. For years, we have seen lighting designers and riggers make their own version of a drop arm out of whatever bits and pieces they had lying around. The resu

Germany - Having already made a major commitment to the MADI standard, Optocore has announced a significant extension, with new advanced devices set to launch at Prolight+Sound in Frankfurt.

Says company founder Marc Brunke, "Throughout the years there have been many voices that believed MADI would not survive the increased number of network protocols. However, we have observed the complete opposite - MADI is the easiest and most popular multi-channel protocol, and is built into almost any professional equipment."
