UK - When Craig Sheppard from the Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC), Stratford walked into the facilities of VLPS Lighting Services in Greenford, he was expecting a regular Vari*Lite training course, joined by RSC colleague Matt Peel.

To his surprise he found he was the 2000th trainee to walk through the doors to gain Vari*Lite training! Specifically he was at VLPS to learn about the VL1000 luminaires, but before the training got started he was presented with champagne, a certificate, t-shirts and a Lewis Lee book. Matt Peel was also presented with some goodies as he was lucky trainee number 2001.

Craig Sheppard commented: "I felt very honoured to be the 2000 trainee. It is as much a milestone for me, as it is for VLPS - actually the best part was the gifts and champagne! Coral [Cooper]'s training is very comprehensive; a valuable part is the on the job handy hints that have obviously been learned from experience! It is always a pleasurable experience to visit VLPS London; you are made to feel at home, everyone is friendly and they are always willing to solve any problems, or answer queries. We therefore look forward to further developing our relationship with VLPS London."

VLPS offers a broad range of product training with courses being tailored for each client's requirements. Based on the international Vari*Lite standard of training, course levels range from a basic set-up to an extensive training into the very heart of the system. An in-depth technical training usually takes a week, but the duration of a course can vary with the requirements.

With a maximum class size of four trainees, it allows an intense pace and personal touch to every course. The training department strives to keep every course specific and up to date. Training is given with priority to show requirements; partly because of the high demand on training, and to ensure that the information given is fresh. With the constant development of mechanics and software in the Vari*Lite system, upgrade courses are also an important part of the training scheme.

Coral Cooper, education manager at VLPS, said: "With the ever-growing range of products and the constant innovation that Vari*Lite is famed for, it is so rewarding to be training on products considered at the cutting edge of our industry".
