UK - A.C. Special Projects has supplied a colour changing LED lighting system for the Wave, an iconic new sculpture which takes pride of place in the new look plaza at the heart of Blackpool town centre. The giant wind charm-like Wave was designed by Somerset artist Lucy Glendinning to capture the spirit and energy of the seaside. It forms an integral part of a £4.7m makeover of St John's and Cedar Squares and was officially unveiled to the public by style guru, Laurence Llewellyn Bowen.

The Wave features an illuminated colour changing pattern in cast resin, reflecting the elegant stained glass windows in St John's Church and also linking it with Blackpool's long standing Illuminations heritage.

A.C. Special Projects were approached to specify and supply a suitable LED lighting system for the sculpture. The company chose the Philips ColorGraze Powercore, an IP66 low maintenance fixture that would be tough enough to withstand the weather elements and require minimal servicing once the statue was fixed into position.

In keeping with the theme of the sculpture, A.C. supplied Anolis ArcSource LED fixtures to light up five clear resin giant pebbles surrounding the Wave in various different colours. The pebbles also provide an informal seating area for those who want to sit and relax.

Other elements of the sculpture include a diving figure that springs from the polished stainless steel structure, referencing Blackpool's coastal resort status. The highly polished 'mirror finish' provides a 'hall of mirrors' type effect, ensuring that The Wave will look different from every angle.
