UK - A.C. Lighting and Production Services Ireland has worked in partnership to supply the lighting rig and PA sound system - which includes the UK's first Turbosound Aspect installed-sound system - to Queen's University in Belfast.

Queen's, which is ranked as one of the Top 20 UK universities, required a new multi-purpose entertainment system including, PA trussing, lighting, dimming, and control equipment for the refurbishment of the main campus's Mandela Hall and Bunatee Bar/Games Room student union facilities.

The Turbosound Aspect permanent install series consists of six TA-880H mid-high units, eight TA-880L bass units, six TA-880HM downfills, four TSW-124 sub bass units and two TA-890H tri-amp units. The speakers are powered by MC2 E25 and E45 power amplifiers with XTA processing.

The Aspect system was specified by Queen's consultant Mick Williams of Symonds Group in conjunction with Turbosound, due to its ability to meet the venue's varied sound requirements of live bands, club nights and stand up comedy acts. The range's Polyhorn technology enables tightly focused point-and-shoot directivity and is intuitively adaptable to the largest range of room-size and audience-coverage requirements, with easy scalability to suit the size of venue. This results in state of the art audio performance from highly efficient and very compact loudspeaker modules.

Other audio equipment supplied included further equipment from Turbosound, MC2 and XTA, an Allen & Heath GL2200-416 mixing console and DJ mixer, and various playback equipment for the University's Bunatee Bar/Games Room. Lighting equipment supplied included a Tomcat ground support system for the stage area alongside a flown Tomcat ONE truss grid over the auditorium. Dimming and control was a combination of Avolites Pearl control desk and Art 2000 touring racks, chosen for their industry standard reputation, beside ETC Smartpack wall mount dimmer units. Custom lighting bars and facility panels were installed as part of a bespoke power, audio and lighting control distribution system, offering a full and flexible design to cope with the multitude of shows and events that take place in the venue.

All equipment was installed by Production Services Ireland. Brian Reilly, managing director of PSI, commented: "This is the first sound installation of its kind in Belfast and we are delighted to have provided an installation of this scale locally with the help of A.C. Lighting. This also created the opportunity to install top end lighting and trussing equipment, from ETC and Avolites to a ground support system from Tomcat."
