Managing director Colin Cuthbert explained: "As has been previously reported, Northern Light is performing extremely well in spite of the current economic climate and the board felt that the time was right for the expansion of our strategic management team."
Cooper has been with Northern Light since 2002 and has been responsible for the successful delivery of some of the company's most high profile projects including the Young Vic, Wexford Opera House, the Roundhouse, the London Coliseum and Aylesbury Waterside Theatre.
Cuthbert continued: "We felt it was imperative that project delivery, as an ever expanding area of our business, was fully represented at board level. Simon has worked both at the coalface and as a senior manager and is ideally placed to take up a director's role with Northern Light."
Cooper concluded: "I doubt there could have been a more interesting or exciting time to become a director of Northern Light and I am relishing the opportunity of becoming more involved in the business. Our ongoing strategy for company growth is generating sales, creating efficiencies and, ultimately, increasing profitability. It is extremely satisfying to be a part of that success - now, and as we move forwards."
