A huge logistical operation, the show occupied over 70 input channels across two desks, with Bryan Ferry employing three separate vocal positions alone. Main stage and piano positions were handled by AT4054s and an ATW7373 handheld radio mic was in place at the keyboard. Also on an AT4054 vocal mic was principle pianist Colin Good, while the guitar amps of Phil Manzanera and Chris Speading were taken care of by AT4047s. For drummer Paul Thompson, Tecofski opted for AT4050s on overheads and AT4041 for ride cymbal. Completing the A-T line up was a further ATW7373 on the backing vocals of Yannick Etienne, and an AT4050, which was placed at the front of the stage as an ambient mic to record the reactions of the crowd.
Tecofski has worked with A-T mics before, employing them on his recent work with Placebo, and explains why he choose them again for the Roxy tour. "I like using A-T mics because they sound so warm and natural - the guitars just sit where I want them in the mix, and the overheads reproduce the cymbals without excessive harshness. As for the 4054s, I’ve never had Bryan's vocal sounding so good."
It is unusual for a tour to have so many microphones from any one manufacturer, and the presence of so many A-T products on the Roxy channel list understandably leads some people to assume that an endorsement deal had been struck, but no such deal exists between Roxy Music and A-T. Levi concludes: "It's simply a case of me finding a number of products that I like the sound of and that I know I can trust."
