The weekly acoustic night, held at the Ginglik club, attracts some of the best singer songwriters on the circuit, from establish names to up-and-coming artists. The Big Secret is enhanced by the projected workings of a live illustrator, who takes inspiration from the performance.
"The Big Secret was established to bridge the gaping chasm between the gigging singer songwriter and the professional music business," says organiser, Amity Fletcher. "The night is frequently an industry hunting ground for talent and we've launched a fistful of fruitful careers. The interest from the Performance Channel is a great compliment."
Described as London's hidden gem, Ginglik is a hip and stylish underground bar situated in Shepherd's Bush Green, formerly a Victorian public convenience. The Big Secret is one of the most popular nights in Ginglik's eclectic programme, which also includes underground electronic music and comedy nights.
The broadcast night comprised performances from the artists Nerina Pallot, Jon Allen, Shelley Poole (formerly of Alisha's Attic), Rob Reynolds, Polly Paulusma, and Duke Special.
"We pride ourselves on offering our guests and performers a good venue, a superb quality PA system, and a first rate sound engineer. We regularly use a 16-channel Allen & Heath MixWizard console but we selected the GL2400 for the broadcast night as we needed more channels. Allen & Heath mixers provide exactly what we need - great clarity of sound, and intuitive design - which pleases our house engineer, as well as any visiting engineers. The GL2400 performed flawlessly - we truly love it," concludes Fletcher.
