France - The operators of Paris concert club Le Nouveau Casino recently determined that they would need to improve their outdated sound system. The existing system had served them well over the years, but it was much too harsh and lacked distinction and coherence. A shootout between five leading audio companies was arranged. Audiolite based in Landernau, best know for doing sound production for the massive yearly Les Vieilles Charrues music festival, went to the shootout bringing in Adamson's SpekTrix True Line Source Technology.

Audiolite won the shootout and the final contract. The system for the venue was designed by DV2's Julien Poirot using Adamson's Shooter software. The main arrays are comprised of one SpekTrix 5-degree enclosure and three SpekTrix Wave 15-degree enclosures per side, providing coverage for the length of the club, which sits at about 18m (59ft), with the Waves suitably shortening the throw.

The SpekTrix Lines 120 degree horizontal coverage is more than sufficient for the narrow space which measures 8m (26.2ft), resulting in thorough coverage throughout the listening area. A single LX10 per side is used as lip fills on the stage and two MH121.5's are used as flown backfills for a night-club configuration when applicable.

The main arrays hang L & R above of the stage, which takes up the entire width of the venue, at a height of about 1.89m to the bottom of the array, leaving a sufficient amount of clearance even for taller performers. The system is powered with Lab.gruppen's new P10000Q's and effectively controlled with Lab.gruppen's Nomad Link Bridge NLB60E. To maximise the main floor space, the FOH is unconventionally placed up on a balcony, but since the room simply sounds good, no matter where one is listening, it hasn't been a problem to visiting sound engineers. This result is achieved with the use of a small a line-array configuration rather than a non-directive conventional set-up in a room this size.

Open every day, the Nouveau Casino has already welcomed to its stage the likes of Rubin Steiner, Stereolab, Ready Made, Chloe, Dave Clark, Nathan Fake, and Kid Loco.
