UK/USA - At this years LDI show in Las Vegas Artistic Licence announced its latest product for the lighting industry: Visual-Patch. With no more patching and no more start addresses, it is often said that the best inventions are the simple ones and that seems to be true with Visual-Patch. The company has combined the power of the new Remote Device Management (RDM) protocol, a lighting console and a video camera (simply point the camera at the stage and press the Visual-Patch button). The lighting console uses RDM to switch each lamp on in turn; it analyzes the position, shape and size of the lamp using the video camera, adds it to the patch and automatically sets the lamp start address.

The first product to implement Visual-Patch is Colour-Tramp, a lighting console optimized for control of two- and three-dimensional arrays of colour changers. Visual-Patch allows large arrays of pixels to be mapped and patched with ease. This is of particular benefit in random pixel arrangements such as 'video on star cloth' applications and was demonstrated at the recent LDI trade show in Las Vegas. With patents pending worldwide, Visual-Patch is a trade mark of Artistic Licence (UK) Ltd.

Another new product launched at LDI was Light-Switch, aimed at sophisticated room control applications. The product is available in both UK and US style wall panels and is a sophisticated DMX512 playback system, controlled by 14 buttons. Features include three pages of eight memories with each memory containing all 512 channels and an independent fade time. A fourth page provides six sequences with variable step times and direction control. The entire system is programmed by a PC application: Switch-Edit. Once programmed, the show is downloaded and burnt to flash memory. Switch-Edit contains a moving lamp library and fully implements both post and pre-master channels. This feature allows all types of DMX devices to be freely mixed. Light-Switch will find applications in conference room, retail, domestic, trade show and museum exhibit applications.

Artistic Licence also announced a new range of DIN rail mounting installation products. The range covers a wide selection of key 'building blocks' for lighting installation control and management. All products support the new RDM (Remote Device Management) protocol and are presented in an industry standard DIN rail mounting case. The case also provides an option for surface or wall mounting. The range now includes, Rail-Demux, a sixteen channel DMX512 to analogue control voltage converter, ideal for interfacing to architectural ballasts. Rail-Switch, a six channel DMX512 control relay. Each relay is rated at 6A, 230VAC, ideal for smoke machines and other stage practicals. Rail-Darling, a six channel darlington driver, ideal for simple animatronics and remote control of contactors. Rail-Split RDM, a six channel DMX512 splitter with support for RDM and High End Systems talkback protocol. The Rail-Pipe, a two circuit controller for colour mixing LED lamps and finally the Pixi-Power SB1, a 150 pixel controller for Pixi-Bulb, Pixi-Cloth and Pixi-Strip.
