The Department of Media and Culture planned and implemented a wide ranging transformation of the capital city to host the Royal Wedding, engaging the Arena Group months ahead to manage the temporary media structures for host broadcasters, the BBC and ITV.
Arena Group senior project manager David Moynes worked with 'built asset consultancy' E.C Harris to plan the design and position of multiple temporary media facilities for the BBC and ITV, before installing them ready for the big day.
Working with these multiple stakeholders and security agencies at some of London's most sensitive locations, the Arena Group successfully managed the UK media compound in Green Park behind Canada Gate. They also constructed 12 bespoke media platforms for host broadcasters to capture key moments of the day.
To meet the requirements of the host broadcasters, the Arena Group designed and built media structures at key locations, including along the Mall, around Queen Victoria Monument in front of Buckingham Palace, and overlooking the Goring Hotel.
David Moynes comments, "With our company's heritage it was fitting that the Arena Group was involved in this prestigious occasion, which I believe was the biggest outdoor broadcast event ever. It was great to be part of a team creating a memorable occasion that showed that Britain can produce a pristine event to the highest of international standards.
"Along with a team comprised of up to 21 scaffolders and skilled craftsmen we were on site for two and a half weeks and having seen the results on TV I think we can be proud of the relatively small but significant part played by the Arena Group in the comprehensive media coverage of the Royal Wedding."
