An eye catcher inside the centre is a dynamic lighting scheme along a corridor of escalators, a multi-coloured illumination realised by use of specially developed Martin Alien 02 Downlights. The Alien 02 Downlight is a modified model of the customary Alien 02 colour changer, housing a 150W halogen metal halide lamp, CMY color mixing system and mechanical dimmer. The special design was developed in collaboration with Bartenbach LichtLabor of Aldrans, Austria.
In direct comparison to LED devices, the Alien 02 Downlight provides several advantages such as a high luminous intensity, 9000 hour lamp life and easily achievable lamp replacement.
"The special challenge with the installation of the dynamic downlights was to enable an effective colour contrast around the escalator portals, despite the dominating conventional lighting," says Martin partner Robert Greis of Licht & Ton in Regensburg.
"Admittedly, the new LED technology was very attractive for all of us, but brilliance and luminous intensity in the different hues of the LED gear left much to be desired. The Alien 02 Downlight however delivers sufficient intensity of light, especially because of its highly saturated colours."
Outside the Atrio's entrance, an inverted glass pyramid illuminated by six Martin MAC 250 Entour colour and effect luminaires, draws attention to the mall. Set on a cycle determined by the management of the centre, the luminaires create a variety of lighting patterns and colour projections at the touch of a button.
