A full movie played during the set

USA - Cinematic rock band Starset blended ‘celestial visuals with cosmic sounds’ on their Immersion Tour. Bandit Lites supplied a lighting system for the band who are known for their ‘expansive storytelling, immersive live shows and exploration of futuristic narratives and existential questions’. They released their latest single and music video Brave New World on 3 May.

Lighting programmer/operator Jamie Masché created a design that would complement the new production elements of the live show, including holograms and massive video walls. With the aim of not blowing out the video content, Masché utilised an array of side wash, Tyler Ladder Towers as well as floor wash to illuminate the seven-member band.

“Tyler Veneziano, client rep at Bandit, reached out to us and helped our vision become reality,” said Masché.

“Jamie and I met on a previous tour and became instant buds,” said Veneziano. “I’ve always enjoyed how his artistry complimented a band like Starset. I pitched him a handful of fixture types that were visually appealing in terms of futuristic eye candy and he ran with it. His show had a lot to offer and was full of surprises. His executions were purposeful and precise.”

Bandit Lites provided Chauvet Maverick MK Pyxis, Claypaky B-EYE K20, Elation SixPar 100, GLP JDC1 LED Strobes, Chauvet Rogue R2X Washes, ADJ Jolt Bar FX and Portman Mantis.

“A full movie played during the set, with the film beginning at the start of the show and running between a majority of the set, with the last five songs seeing the removal of the hologram from the stage and an intimate Starset at Dark show accompanying,” explained Masché.

JDC1 provided punch and were set to varying degrees of intensity through the group masters (depending on the venue size.) Chavuet Maverick MK Pyxis, Claypaky B-EYE K20 and Mantis fixtures delivered the sci-fi aesthetic of Starset.

“The ADJ Jolt FX Bars were placed behind the upstage members of the band and really allowed for great colour saturation behind the band as well as hybrid looks with the bean dimmer and zones of the wash,” said Masché. “They complimented the video wall amazingly, as well as highlighting the talent’s solos.”

“I look forward to building upon our relationship with both Jamie and Starset,” Veneziano said. “I think we make a great team.”

“Special thanks to Bandit team involved on this show, and we look forward to continuing our relationship with Bandit Lites,” finished Masché.
