More than 17,000 attendees including 8,000 students from 21 countries gathered to compete
USA - Destination Imagination, the non-profit organization that works to inspire and equip the world’s next generation of innovators, held their annual Global Finals event.
Bandit Lites once again facilitated a lighting package for the enormous competition that centres on promoting logic skills and inspiring creativity, while encouraging where more than 17,000 attendees including 8,000 students from 21 countries gathered to competeenthusiasm in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. This year’s Global Finals featured guests included CW television actor Victor Rodriguez III, singer-songwriters Levi Kreis and Drew Gasparini along with NASA astronaut, Dorothy “Dottie” Metcalf-Lindenburger.
With a weekend of celebrating creativity, Bandit Lites general manager Giff Swart strives each year to create a unique and fun design for the Opening and Closing Ceremonies that will wow the crowd, while still working within the in the round design and budget constraints.
“Probably the biggest standout would be the “squiggle-trusses” out over the audience,” said Swart. “These were loaded with Martin MAC 2000 Washes with beam kits affixed. All truss was toned by Bandit’s exclusive GRNLite LED Pars.”
Curved truss with GRNLite Moving Washes along with Martin MAC 2000 Profiles and Clay Paky Alpha Beams provided the stage lighting, while VL 3000 Spots with full-color glass gobos shined on a 40’ x 20’ cyc, which was also used for eye catching laser shows.
Upstage, GRNLite Moving Washes provided backlight along with Martin MAC 2000 Profiles and Washes with beam kits.
In addition to the lighting for the opening and closing ceremony at Thompson-Boling Arena, Bandit supplied the lighting for the Knoxville Convention Centre on Clinch Concourse, working with AVAdventures on their Gallery Dash Project.
Swart referred to Destination Imagination as the highlight of his professional year, adding, “Pete Sandford has been a partner on this project from the beginning, and it is always a pleasure to work with Pete! Working with an organization on a project that is a celebration of creativity is truly a joy, since we are able to flex our creative muscles.”
