Sepultura’s last farewell

USA - Brazilian metal band Sepultura announced it was embarking on its final tour with an accompanying live album that will feature 40 different songs from 40 different cities. Bandit Lites partnered with lighting designer Mike Scherer to outfit the North American leg of the parting tour.

“We are so excited to announce the North American concerts of the Celebrating Life Through Death farewell tour," shared long-time guitarist Andreas Kisser. "We are having a blast doing these shows and celebrating 40 years of history.”

Following their founding in 1984, Sepultura positioned themselves as one of the most influential and successful metal bands, pioneering both the thrash metal and death metal genres.

“It was truly an honour to work with Mike Scherer,” said Bandit Lites client representative Ty Veneziano. “He and tour manager Vander Caselli were very agreeable and positive forces. With the help of our project manager, Donnie Lockridge, we were entrusted to look within our inventory to create a floor package that checked the boxes created by Mike.”

Scherer sought a lighting system that would deliver a familiar atmosphere and experience to fans, while accommodating additional content showcased on LED screens.

“We chose for this tour some particular fixtures to deliver a very powerful lighting setup, including the amazing VL3600 Spots, which was a really good fixture to work with, JCD1 as a lighting effect fixture, Solaris Flares for an efficient colour contrast, and the Strike 2 blinders for an awesome warm background,” Scherer shared.

“Seeing the legendary Sepultura play in front of a Bandit Lites rig will forever be a merit I proudly maintain, as I have been a fan of their music since middle school,” added Veneziano. “The VL3600 Spots were like a firing squad of cannons blasting light in time with Sepultura’s wonderfully chaotic thrash. I am very pleased to be able to play a small part in the band’s farewell tour.”

While Scherer had to have the fortitude to adapt his system to the local rigging lights of the various venues, the fully prepped gear from Bandit made a massive difference in delivering results on tour.

“The pre-production team in Nashville did a fantastic job at the Bandit warehouse,” he said. “I cannot thank you guys enough for it. “It was an incredible experience to work with Bandit. From the first contact with the company by email till the day of our prep production in Nashville, everything worked really well and smoothly.”
