The impressive rib-cage of a 166 year old Fin Whale skeleton at The Coast exhibition
UK - Coast, the popular television series, is the latest BBC production to be successfully transformed into an interactive visitor exhibition by Experience Design and Management.

Situated at Blackgang Chine on the Isle of Wight and overlooking the spectacular South West Heritage Coast, this substantial new exhibition features items from around the country that reflect the subject matter of the programmes. These conventional exhibits are combined with interactive touch screen displays and video sequences to really engage the visitor.

Experience Design and Management have established a close working relationship with the BBC, having already designed successful exhibitions including the spectacular Doctor Who Up Close at sites throughout the UK and Robin Hood at Nottingham Castle. As with these previous exhibitions, Coast had some specific lighting requirements and Experience again turned to UK distributor Batmink whose technical sales team were able to advise and supply the necessary solutions.

To really bring the exhibition to life and give it a dynamic aspect, a realistic rippling water effect was required.. After consultation with Batmink, several LED water effects were specified. Having previously used LED lighting to great effect at both the Doctor Who and Robin Hood exhibitions, the designers at Experience were keen to use similar lighting effects at Coast.

Experience's Martin Wilkie reports: "The colour changing flexibility of LED lighting, coupled with its low power draw, virtually zero heat emissions and long lifespan makes this technology perfect for exhibition use. We have combined LED Multipars to create atmosphere with the LED rippling water effects to add a feeling of movement and motion. This has worked extremely well, in particular around the famous 166 year old Fin Whale skeleton, emphasising the impressive nature of this exhibit."

The Coast exhibition at Blackgang Chine is now open.
