With 22 new products on show, beyerdynamic had most audio bases were covered. The company presented the Opus 86 flexible gooseneck microphone, a lightweight mic with high gain before feedback, designed for easy mounting for a variety of applications, including any type of instrument from sax to accordion. Powered by a 9V battery, the unit can mix three mic inputs and route the output to a pocket transmitter or wired power supply unit. The Opus 89 vocal microphone made its debut: the hypercardioid handheld is built to withstand the rigours of the road.

The MCW-D 50 wireless conference system isa digital system, broadcasting on 2.4GHz DSSS transmission technology, featuring 128-bit data encryption and the ability to operate a total of 4,096 mic units on up to nine bi-directional data channels: flexible and expandable.

Among its third-party lines, beyerdynamic showed the Viper Digital Power Link from Altec Lansing,a self-powered ceiling speaker with a full-range digital amplifier; ASL's new WS200 and 400 Digital Wireless Base Stations; and, from Biamp, the AEC2w wideband echo cancelling card, daVinci software for Audia and Nexia audio platforms and the Wideband 8 and 4.

For installations where the continuity of amplified sound is paramount, beyerdynamic presented the AX16 Intelligent Amplifier Switch from Bittner Audio, which can automatically divert inputs, outputs and volume settings to a backup amplifier in case of a fault and can be used with any make or model of amplifier.

On the loudspeaker front, beyerdynamic presented new products from Blue Sky,Renkus-Heinz and WHD. Blue Sky monitoring systems are used throughout the world, most notably in LucasFilm's Skywalker Sound Studios. The System One solution is approved for use in THX pm3 certified studios and is a 3-way monitoring system, although it can be easily upgraded to provide 5.1 surround monitoring.

Renkus-Heinz's recently introduced DCC16 and DCC8 digitally steerable array technology was also on display, as was its CF/CFX Series of high performance loudspeakers aimed at the portable and installation markets, while WHD's loudspeaker/ wall light combo was an illuminating experience. beyerdynamic also showed new products from ProCon Technology, Powersoft and XTA - check out the website for more details.

Finally, the company showed the Elite wi-fi enabled LCD active-matrix panels. The airCUE touchscreen can be customized to present any information, which can then be altered or interacted with via the screen, and results transmitted back via the wi-fi link. Thankfully, the nice people at beyerdynamic had programmed the system to ask what drink you would like, which was then promptly delivered before you became overwhelmed at the sheer scale of new products available.
