Most recently handling the production sound for the recent UK tour for the legendary punk-rock band The Damned, Aquarius’s managing director Dave Pickering collaborated with the band’s FOH engineer Andy Hawkins. Together they decided to deploy Opus 87s on drums.
Dave Pickering explained: "This was the first time I’d ever used the Opus range. Thanks to Simon Druce from beyerdynamic, who recently introduced the line to me, I don’t think I’ll ever use any other mic on drums. The reason is quite simply that they are designed specifically for the snare - a difficult instrument to amplify, but this product reproduces the sound perfectly. In addition its specially designed double spring clamp provides rock solid mounting, which of course is paramount when playing live."
As a condenser microphone it offers an outstanding cardioid response and a very high SPL capability. In addition, it boasts an exceptionally wide frequency response from 30-20,000 Hz. The Opus 87s have also been recently combined into Moloko’s European tour by Skan PA Hire as well as by Liverpool based Ad-Lib Audio on a number of UK and European tours.
