"Black Light has a wealth of experience in the field of pyrotechnics and with flame-based effects," said Black Light's head of company development, Phil Haldane. "So we were delighted to help out with this high profile product launch. Many of us at Black Light are fans of Irn-Bru so that gave us added motivation to put on a great show. Overall, the company co-ordinating the whole project, Saville Edinburgh, was very pleased with our input - both in the run-up to the event and at the launch itself."
Black Light's specialist pyrotechnics team used Le Maitre Chameleon Units to create fireball effects. They also employed Le Maitre Stage Gerbs to create a backdrop of sparks behind the area in which the product was revealed. A desk controller and pyro control system, manned by Black Light technicians, was used to set the effects off in sequence.
The project involved a number of challenges as the pyrotechnics had to be launched safely in a public place. Black Light's team started by liaising with the client to get a full understanding of their needs, they then reviewed the suitability of the location and carried out a risk assessment. The final stage of the work was the design, build and implementation of the pyrotechnic effects. This involved close co-ordination with all the other teams involved in the project.
Fiery Irn-Bru is a limited edition soft drink from AG Barr. Its launch was backed up by a high-profile outdoor advertising campaign.
