UK - Black Light was part of the team behind the BBC programme Songs of Praise when it was recently broadcast from St. Mary's Cathedral in Glasgow. The company's role was to support the show's lighting designer and supply and install a full TV lighting rig.

"This was a great project for Black Light," says Stephen Read, head of the company's Events Team. "It was an exciting challenge to transfer our skills as theatrical technicians to the world of on-site TV production. There are a number of differences in terminology and working practice to get used to, but my team was well up to the job and everyone performed superbly."

The main technical challenge involved in getting the show broadcast was ensuring that all the lights were properly placed to create the illusions and effects needed by the producers. "It was interesting to see how the TV crew put it all together and the professionalism they brought to the job," says Read. "It was obvious that we were working with a well-oiled machine and it was great to be part of the team."

"We're all very impressed by BlackLight's contribution to the Songs of Praise from Glasgow. I would like to say a big 'thank you' to all the team for your unstinted help in making it all work so, so well. I hope we can do it again," said Dennis Butcher the TV lighting director.

The project took three days, with filming taking place over the weekend of 12 June. Black Light's responsibilities involved rigging the lights, resetting them for a series of filming sequences and then dismantling everything at the end of the shoot. Black Light's partner on the project was the television production company Tern TV.
