UK - Blitz Communications recently demonstrated its widescreen expertise at the IVCA (International Visual Communications Association) Awards 2004. Held in the Great Room at the Grosvenor House Hotel, on 26 March 2004, the prestigious award ceremony is a yearly event that recognises and celebrates the best in visual communications in the industry.

Blitz, working closely with THA (Thomas Hannah & Associates), the appointed production company, was commissioned by IVCA and THA to supply the equipment and technical expertise for a panoramic widescreen video backdrop to the award ceremony and entertainment.

Blitz used an 18.3m wide by 4.9m high screen combined with Vista Montage projection (supplied by Joys Production Services) along with six Barco R8 projectors to produce a panoramic vista, and a four-camera channel portable production unit with video record, plus video hard drive playback. Blitz's specialist graphics division also provided the software and graphics for the display and worked with THA to bring the theme of 'dreams and nightmares' to life, as well as delivering the complicated nomination graphics sequence.

Heather Robinson, head of production at THA was delighted with the results and commented: "This was a challenging brief, and we needed a strong, creative team to help us to deliver it; Blitz is one of the most professional and dedicated teams that I have ever had the pleasure of working with."

Wayne Drew, chief executive of IVCA said: "Thanks to Blitz, working with THA, the 2004 IVCA Awards was one of the most spectacular so far in the 17-year history of the event. The giant screen and Vista Montage projection provided some stunning images and we had excellent feedback from many of the 1000 guests. As the IVCA Awards are Europe's premiere event for the producers and clients of the corporate visual communication industry it is vital that the ceremony uses the latest and best technology. The outstanding support of Blitz ensured we had the highest technical and professional standards to celebrate our industry's considerable achievements."
