The Transmissions Live From Jodrell Bank
UK - Audiences were wowed at The Transmissions Live From Jodrell Bank this weekend as the iconic Lovell Telescope was transformed into a spectacular backdrop in celebration of the 100th anniversary of Sir Bernard Lovell, founder and first director of the Jodrell Bank Observatory. Managed by production company Ear To The Ground, the event was the final weekend of The Transmissions series, taking place on the 30-31 August.

The 2013 Live From Jodrell Bank series featured a spectacular finale with performances from Sigur Ros on Friday and Manchester's internationally renowned symphony orchestra Hallé on Saturday. Conducted by Stephen Bell, Hallé's performance was inspired by the stars playing a selection of intergalactic film music including Star Wars, E.T and Doctor Who.

Bluman Associates managed the video content production and integration for two visually spectacular projections onto the 250ft Lovell Telescope, working with production company Ear To The Ground.

Bluman was commissioned by Jodrell Bank to produce a documentary showcasing archive footage of Sir Bernard Lovell's life and work. This was introduced by Tim O'Brien, associate director of Jodrell Bank Observatory, and screened in the interval before Hallé's second half, where the telescope was used as an impressive stage backdrop. Working with Spaceside Creatives, Bluman Associates designed the content, which aimed to take audiences out of this world, in-keeping with the music.

Pod Bluman, managing director of Bluman Associates commented, "This was a fantastic showcase for our new design capabilities on one of the most monumental projectionist surfaces ever imaginable. For the actual event, we had a very tight time frame to ensure all projectors were in the exact right place down to the last millimetre. We used four of Barco's new 40,000 lumen 2k DLP projectors and the incredible brightness ensured pixel perfect reproduction of all content. The show was definitely a crowd pleaser and we are proud to have been part of celebrating the work of a clearly much admired man."
