Bluman Associates utilised three Barco 40K projectors to create the backdrop
UK - When British rock band Whitesnake took to the stage this May for an eight date UK arena tour, the gigs featured their first ever live backdrop, brought to life by video services production specialist Bluman Associates. This featured a cohesive mix of logos and album inspired artwork spanning the band's 35 year legacy alongside live streamed close up shots capturing all the action.

Bluman Associates provided the technical production for the video for the whole tour and designed all the content in-house, following the creation of the company's design department earlier in 2013.

A 40ft by 20ft backdrop was the canvas for the projection. This also cleverly hid the video wall set up that co-headliner and fellow rock legends Journey were using for their set, making the quick turn-around between acts possible through a simple reveal.

Bluman Associates utilised three Barco 40K projectors to create the backdrop, operated by projectionist Andy Joyes, whose previous accolades have included Head of Projection for the Olympic Opening Ceremony.

Gideon Hogan, tour manager for Whitesnake explained, "With 2013 being the year of the snake and representing a huge landmark in the history of the band, with Whitesnake celebrating 35 years, we wanted to embrace new technologies and so something that has never been done before on a Whitesnake tour. As it was the first time Whitesnake had done projections it was important that we had someone who was able to hold our hand and walk us through each part of the process and the spectrum of possibilities that were available to us.

"The brief for this project was to embrace the traditional backdrop image that all fans are used to seeing, whilst trying to integrate artwork and album covers from eras of music synonymous with Whitesnake. Having worked together in the past with other clients we identified Bluman Associates as the perfect partner to take this first step with, understanding the simplistic nature of what we were trying to achieve and delivering it with great effect. As the show evolved and once we had live camera images on the big screen, we used effects streamed over the top of the live camera which added a different element to the visual aspect of the show, whilst still in keeping with the band's style."

Pod Bluman, managing director of Bluman Associates commented, "Thanks to our new design capabilities we were able to create the whole look of the projected content as well as providing the technical production. The shows have been a huge success and we are proud to have been part of such an iconic rock tour."
