Brighton Goes Gospel concert employed latest video products from Roland Systems Group.
UK - Brighton Goes Gospel is that city's non-religious community gospel choir, entirely run by volunteers. To mark its 10th anniversary, the choir staged a night of gospel music in the Brighton Dome's Concert Hall before Christmas, a high-spec visual event featuring six cameras and a mix solution using the latest video products from Roland Systems Group.

Led by choir director Karen Gibson, and musical director Jason Thompson, the 180- strong choir was joined by prominent UK gospel singer Beverley Trotman of X-Factor fame and the Kingdom Choir as well as other surprise guests. The highly regarded seven- piece JT Band provided musical accompaniment for an audience of 1400.

Brighton-based video services company As Described handled the three-hour show's visual requirements, providing a live mix of six cameras and pre-recorded video material, relaying the mix to projection screens set up behind the choir.

For this brief, As Described's Adam Seaman deployed the new integrated LVS800 vision mixer and MVS-12 multi-viewer package from Roland Systems Group. "Straight out of the box, it's very easy to see how Roland has clearly thought about this compact and flexible mix solution, and its potential use in varied industry applications," reports Seaman. "With a very small (almost VJ mixer-sized) footprint, the mixer can be set up in tight gallery spaces yet still allows up to 8x sources to be selected with both A+B mix mode and PGM / Preview bus usage.

"When linked to the bespoke-designed MVS-12 Multi-viewer, the capability of the LVS-800 is extended massively, giving the operator a customisable multi screen canvas to view all sources and program / TX preview panes. All that is needed is one large flat screen monitor and the operator is good to go. Compared to far more costly options for vision mixing on shows, this fantastic little set-up will give many companies an affordable way into professional multi camera SD mixing at a fraction of the outlay costs that could be faced."
