Puerto Rico - Yanni sets himself apart by choosing historical places for his live recordings: previous settings include the Acropolis in Greece, the Taj Mahal in India, the Forbidden City in China and the Royal Albert Hall in the UK.

His most recent concert and DVD recording took place in another majestic location, at Castillo San Felipe del Morro in Puerto Rico. The front wall of the fortress became the central visual attraction for the two-day concert and recording acting as a background for the stage positioned in front on the grass near the ocean. "The concept was to illuminate the wall of El Morro, as the fort was the main part of the scenography," said lighting designer Bud Horowitz.

"Yanni has been waiting 20 years to perform at El Morro," continued Horowitz. "The advantage of working with Chauvet LED products was the ability to play with colour

Europe - Martin Professional's new 1000 W MAC Viper Profile successfully debuted on the first European stadium leg of Coldplay's Mylo Xyloto world tour with lighting / production designer Paul Normandale reporting: "I've found my 1200W replacement and what's more - I can lift it!"

The new MAC Viper Profile is the first fixture in Martin's 1000 W MAC Viper family of automated luminaires. In May, Normandale field-tested the fixture on a string of European Coldplay shows alongside a host of other MAC fixtures - MAC 2000 Beam XBs, MAC 700 Profiles, MAC 250 Beams and MAC 101s.

"The Vipers were used to light the LED screen fascias, for which they needed to be bright and have a considerable zoom, which they did very well," Normandale stated, adding that he plans to put more Viper Profiles on the rider when the tour returns to Europe in late August. Lighting

UK - XL Events, commissioned by the TRO Group, supplied a specially constructed circular LED screen for Nissan's stand in the main exhibition area of the 2012 Festival of Speed, held at the Goodwood Estate, Chichester.

The stand was showcasing Nissan's rugged Juke crossover vehicle under the 'Built to Thrill' banner. Over the Festival of Speed weekend, fans were treated to a virtual skydiving experience.

XL Events' display, measuring six metres in diameter, was made up of lightweight Pixled F-11 LED, mounted on to a circular Litebeam truss. The circular display was flown just off centre of the main stand and displayed facts and figures about the Nissan Juke throughout the Festival of Speed weekend.

Rich Pow project manager for XL events worked with Matt Price from the TRO Group both before and during the event:

USA - Mac Miller knows how to reach for the heights when it comes to moving his career forward. He famously titled the first single from his breakout mixtape Donald Trump which garnered over 53m views on YouTube and elicited a favourable comment from Trump himself, via Twitter, who stated when it reached 20m views, "Who wouldn't be flattered?" and declared Miller the "new Eminem."

So when it came time to choose a PA system for Miller's first major solo tour, Showtime Sound, of Glenelg, Maryland, put together a touring EAW PA system consisting of 24 KF740 line array modules in two hangs of 12 modules each. USA - The Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport's new international terminal, the Maynard H. Jackson Jr. International Terminal, features an art installation entitled Light Waves: Atlanta, a large-scale art installation by Christopher Janney, artistic director for PhenomenArts, Inc. The piece, part of the Airport Art Programme, is one of five works for the new terminal.

The piece, described by Janney as "an abstraction of Georgia in colour and sound", features 32 Chauvet Intimidator Scan LED 300 scanners, 68 horizontal panes of coloured glass - stacked in 17 sections with four panes in each section - along a 160ft hallway. As the light from the recessed fixtures in the ceiling passes over the glass, it reflects and refracts creating a continuously changing pattern of colour on the wall.

UK - Canegreen, a part of the SSE Audio Group, is providing Meyer Sound equipment to multiple name artists as the summer touring season heats up. A dealer and provider of Meyer Sound for more than 25 years, this year sees Canegreen/SSE Audio Group supporting artists as diverse as Tony Bennett, George Benson, Paul Weller, and newcomer Jessie J. The common denominator is Meyer Sound.

Another aspect that links current Canegreen/SSE clients is that many of them are performing at London's Royal Albert Hall, which hosted the annual BluesFest in June and for which Canegreen/SSE provided a Meyer Sound system.

The Royal Albert Hall, says Canegreen/SSE Director Yan Stile, is a notoriously challenging environment for front-of-house engineers. "The nature of the building," he explains, "is its 360-degree coverage. It's a really difficult place to cover." For BluesFest

USA - Environmentally friendly Clay Paky Sharpy met eco-inspired GreenWaves III recently, the third annual event at the University of Central Florida (UCF) that implements environmental and social best practices to promote the need for conscious sustainable solutions.

Lighting designer Justin Geiger of California-based Impulse Creative Group used 16 Sharpys for the concert portion of the event, which featured electronic artists and notable DJs. It was billed as the first interactive concert at UCF and took sustainability to the next level by utilizing a PowerLeap dance floor, which uses "Piezo" flooring technology to convert the energy from the crowd into reusable energy for the concert.

Geiger deployed his complement of Sharpys on the main stage at the UCF Arena. "We used them on the wings, flanking a 40ft projection wall and had four on the stage," he rep

Latvia - With any dance, it's important to not only hear the music, but to feel it too. Thanks to a new Tannoy system, the students at Jurmala Dance Centre, the first professional and fully equipped dance studio in Latvia, are doing exactly that.

The owners of the studio, which opened in January 2012 to a great reception, wanted to make sure that Jurmala was equipped to the highest standard throughout. This philosophy of high quality started with the flooring and surroundings, and included the best possible sound and lighting system to recreate that exact feeling of being on a real stage for the students.

Jurmala offers dance lessons for everybody and every taste, from classic and ballet to club dance, hip hop and others, so any installed system had to be able to cope with every eventuality and every style of music with perfect precision.

France - Parisian entrepreneur Raymond Visan's Buddha-Bar recently installed new Meyer Sound systems to present its wide-ranging musical atmosphere with consistent, crystal-clear quality.

"At Buddha-Bar, our sonic signature is a subtle combination of world and electro-ethnic music," observes Franck Fortet, vice president for development at George V Eatertainment, the parent firm of Buddha-Bar. South Africa - Once again Wayne Sproule from Pendragon Dezign was in charge of the technical facets of the PSL Awards, a live broadcast, hosted at the Lyric Theatre, Gold Reef City on 27 May 2012. The event incorporated over 50 Robe fixtures.

"I still get excited about working on events," commented Sproule. "If I didn't, it would be time to pack up. It is estimated that viewership for this live production was 14m million, and apparently it was the number one tweeted subject between 8pm to 10pm that evening."

A rare occurrence was that for once there was more than enough time for the set up, but what really made it a success were the people involved. "I just love working with this team," said Sproule. "There is no drama, everyone gets on with it. I call them 'The Wrinkle Rockers Road Show,' and while there is fun and laughter, nothing is a pro

UK - L-Acoustics certified provider SFL Group has supplied a Kara WST line source system to C3 Productions of Brighton. SFL Group also demo'd the system for C3 prior to purchase in several London venues and provided training at its Reading premises.

The south coast-based production and hire company has added 12 Kara cabinets with eight SB18 subwoofers, three LA8 amplified controllers and flying hardware to its inventory.

This is C3's first L-Acoustics purchase, and the company chose Kara because it needed a medium format high quality line array to use across live music, performance arts and corporate live events. "Our mission statement is to provide our customers with the latest and highest performance technology and this system enables us to deliver that," says C3 director Jon Crawley. "We investigated all the systems currently available on the market and felt

France - Lighting designer Sarah Landau has turned to Martin Professional's award-winning MAC Aura LED wash light, along with MAC 700 Profiles, Atomic 3000 strobes and Martin LC Series LED video panels, to light French electronic band M83's current world tour.

Touring in support of their latest album, "Hurry Up, We're Dreaming," Landau's design recalls 'a vision of the future as imagined in the past' with elements like laser tag arenas, late 80s school supply graphic design (Trapper Keepers, Lisa Frank...), and old sci-fi flicks as her inspiration.

"The first tours included a simpler LED mover," she explains, "but as the shows grew, I was able to upgrade to the Aura. I love the look of its bubbly face and felt it would fit really well with the retro-futuristic look of the show. When zooming, it resembles a little alien with compound eyes.

USA - The new ELAR Quad Series from Elation Professional has been designed and built for rugged "production use" and utilizes high-power 10W CREE LEDs with extreme optics Quad-Color Technology, for bright output and the highest quality, most advanced colour mixing, while offering pixel control for extreme LED matrix effects, says the company.

Each of the ELAR Quad Series units' Quad-Color 10W CREE MC-E multi-chip LEDs contains four different colour sources (red, green, blue, white), allowing mixing to be done inside each lens optic. This 4-in-1 configuration produces more smoothly blended colours and eliminates the distractive RGB shadows often associated with single-color LEDs. For even more precise colour-mixing accuracy, the ELAR Quad Series features a Single Pixel Control Mode, giving designers pinpoint control over color production down to the level of individual

UK - From the very first moments of 2012, high-output LED lighting fixtures from Leader Light were in action - and they have continued to be in demand through the rest of the year.

Leader's LL Stage6-06DW 'Beam' fixtures saw in the New Year at one of the planet's biggest New Year Parties - Edinburgh's Hogmanay Street Party, which welcomed over 80,000 revellers. Black Light of Edinburgh lit both the East End and West End stages at the event, with the Leader fixtures used on the West End Princes Street stage and used to light acts including Wild Beasts and Friendly Fires.

Black Light's Phil Haldane explains, "We used the Leader Beams in place of Par38 ACLs. They are a very nice, compact unit effectively producing a nice tight white beam with minimal power consumption.
