The nominees included Paul Arditti for Billy Elliot The Musical, Christopher Shutt for Coram Boy and, on Guys and Dolls, Terry Jardine and Chris Full, with Paul Arditti scooping up the Best Sound Design Award at yesterday's gala presentation.
Managing director Bob Thomas believes that more than 75% of the current Broadway and West End shows feature a Cadac analogue console, reflecting Cadac's continuing supremacy in sound quality, reliability and bullet-proof performance, he says: "We would like to offer our congratulations to Paul Arditti on his Award, and to the other nominees. The majority of today's leading sound designers continue to look to the J-Type as the lynchpin of a show's sound system, based on its legendary sound quality, dedicated facilities and intuitiveoperation. This is matched by rental companies' appreciation of the desk's reliability, longevity and virtually bomb-proof operation!
"Designers have been able to compare the relative merits of analogue and digital desks for some time, and it is a fact that for the majority, the J-Type remains the preferred choice. Our approach in developing the new Cadac digital theatre desk has been to translate all the features that make the J-Type such a great console into the digital domain, and to give sound designers and operators the best of both worlds in a purpose-built digital theatre desk - great analogue sound, features and reliability plus enhanced functionality and operability. Our objective is to ensure that irrespective of whether the choice of console is analogue or digital, it is a Cadac console that best meets the sound designer's needs."
