Capital Sound project manager Paul Timmins said that Shepperton-based suppliers have offered a preferred source over an extended period, not only for their competitive pricing but also their exemplary support and back-up.
"When we purchased a Yamaha M7CL a few months ago they came across with the desk and gave us a complete workshop and tutorial. This is the service we have come to expect from them."
Capital Sound Hire remains committed to retaining a cutting-edge inventory and stocks various digital alternatives. "But Yamaha, in particular, enables us to respond to the demands of American artists, and our policy is always that if people want it, we will buy it." The version configured with the recallable mic preamps, he says, is the one most favoured by sound engineers, "and we certainly envisage that there will be enough business."
Both PM5D's have already gone out on the Strokes European festival tour, with James Gebhard at front-of-house and Jamie Landry on monitors. "It is absolutely ideal for festival work," says Timmins.
One of the desks is now being prepped for monitor engineer, Becky Pell to take out with Morten Harket and A-Ha. Having used the console on a recent run of festival dates A-Ha will be taking it out again later this year on a series of tour dates.
