"The premise of Cascade," says Corder, "is that a local jazz duo had been booked to play a set following dinner . . . and find themselves playing in the midst of the spectacular Alnwick Garden Cascade."
The audience was invited to follow the bemused pair as they walked through the garden; an element of performance art was introduced as a waiter, accompanied by umbrella-bearers, clambered through the cascade to deliver a bottle of Newcastle Brown Ale to the musicians.
White Light supplied the lighting services and the theatrical lighting installation, overseen by project manager Jack Thompson. The installation comprised about 150 Par 64, with dimming from Avolites ART 2000 racks in two locations, run from an Avolites Pearl control desk. Corder used 135 fluorescent fittings supplied by EncapSulite: the IP64-rated fixtures had integral electronic ballasts and deep-dyed polyester sleeves.
Sound was provided by London-based Orbital, and was based around a d&b audiotechnik Q Series line array: the long throw to the pavilion was handled by a ground-stacked system comprising two Q1s, a Q Sub and a B1 bass unit, per side. Sound design was by Andy Pink.
