The Bevrijdingsfestival Overijssel celebrates the liberation of the Netherlands
The Netherlands - The Bevrijdingsfestival Overijssel kicked off in Zwolle, a municipality and the capital city of the province of Overijssel. Celebrating the liberation of the Netherlands, festival organizers were dedicated to maintaining an environment of energy-efficiency throughout the festival, including the lighting rigs that would be used in the performance areas. To achieve their energy-efficient initiatives, organizers turned to authorised Vari*Lite Dealer HA-Rental who supplied them with 10 VL1100CD ERS and four VLX Wash luminaires from Philips Vari-Lite.

"Understanding the desires of the festival organizers to have the best in energy-efficient and sustainable lighting, we approached the organization with a great lighting package that would allow them to meet all their requirements," said Hans Alders, HA-Rental.

As the organizers agreed to the offer from HA-Rental, Alders and his team got right to work to create a lighting design that would enhance the celebration and offer all the scheduled musical artists an expansive and comprehensive design to draw from for their performances.

Alders continued, "Since it was Liberation Day in the Netherlands, we needed to match the colours within the design to those of our country; red, white and blue. But we also had to make the design flexible enough so that all the bands scheduled to appear playing would agree to use it. By using the Vari*Lite luminaires, that is exactly what we were able to do.

"Conserving energy in our lighting design was objective number one, and it was also an objective we completed. The average energy consumption on our stage was lowered from 63A/380V to only 18A/380V, using 65% less energy and 200 liters less gasoline for generators over an 18-hour period. We also had a CO2 reduction of 500 kg. While not all of this can be attributed directly to the lighting fixtures, they were a large contributor to this reduction. Because of the combination with the VLX Wash and the VL1100CD ERS, we were able to create beautiful and powerful front, back and effect lighting at a fraction of the energy costs."
