UK - Centre Stage Engineering was recently awarded ISO 9001 certification as it commits to further improve customer satisfaction. The company also reports that it has been appointed as a recognized designer and installer by Gala Systems of Canada for its unique Spiralift drive transmission system used in stage elevators.

The recent doubling of the factory floor space to accommodate a stand-alone, in-house manufacturing and fabrication facility, means that the company can now tackle a wider range of projects, while the company also looked to the future with the recent appointment of a young design engineer to the team at the start of the year, along with the establishment of a contributory company pension plan and a mechanical engineering apprenticeship scheme.

Current projects include the supply and installation of all the stage machinery at the new prestigious Perth Concert Hall - with theatre consultants Carr & Angier - and the installation of two Spiralift stage elevators at the BBC Radio Theatre in Broadcasting House, Portland Place, London. The equipment for the Concert Hall in Perth includes a large orchestra pit elevator using Spiralift technology and an auditorium seating elevator that uses screwjacks to raise and lower the whole auditorium floor, accommodating 24 seating wagons on air castors. Eight motorized hoists, two motorized acoustic reflectors, 36 fixed reflectors and Triple E's unique acoustic banner system are also being installed by Centre Stage in time for the building handover in January 2005.

Work due to start before the end of the year includes the installation of five hydraulic scissor lifts at Central Hall, Westminster and the supply and installation of all stage machinery at the new Peepul Centre in Leicester - with consultancy Theatre Projects Consultants and project co-ordinators Charcoalblue. Further work in the New Year includes the refurbishment of the counterweight flying system at His Majesty's Theatre, Aberdeen, together with the installation of five motorized hoists plus ancillary theatre equipment.
