- Details
In her new role on the 20-strong Council, Amanda will act as a representative for commercial luminaires, championing the UK’s lighting manufacturers and suppliers and ensuring their voice is heard on a range of key industry issues.
Amanda is one of three women to be elected to the LIA council, with the association keen to improve the diversity of its members. The council, which typically meets five times a year, serves to represent the different sectors within the lighting industry, with the LIA playing a key role in shaping and influencing policy, legislation, quality and supply chain behaviour.
Commenting on her election, Speight says: “This is a real milestone moment for me in my career and I’m delighted to have the opportunity to help shape the future of an industry I care deeply about. Having worked in lighting for over 35 years, I’ve got to know a lot of people in the industry and I’m looking forward to giving them a voice and representing their views on the issues that really matter.”
Peter Hunt, chief policy officer at the LIA, says: “Recent years have seen a wider and more diverse group of people working in the lighting industry than ever before, and as the representative body for the industry, it’s essential that the LIA shares that same diversity.
“I’m delighted that Amanda has been elected to sit on the LIA Council. She’s hugely respected and well-known across the industry and she will undoubtedly play a key role in helping shape the future of the LIA and the industry.”
Amanda’s career in the lighting industry began 35 years ago with a role in her family’s Huddersfield-based lighting business, Speights Ltd, which was a founding member of the Lighting Association before it became the LIA.
Today in her role as national business development manager at Lancashire-based LED lighting manufacturer CFE Lighting, Amanda leads a four-strong sales team and is responsible for generating and securing new business, managing key accounts and driving product development and innovation.
