Officially launched at this year’s PLASA, Scene Change has been a year in development: housed in a purpose-built studio at Waterloo Road in London, the company will employ state-of-the-art technology in the creation of digital video content specifically for projection.
Scene Change’s aim will be to unite two market sectors - entertainment technology and video projection. The company’s advantage will be its ability to draw on industry-specific knowledge to create original digital video content. Conventional video libraries offer images in a rectangular format suitable for broadcast, but most lighting designers are used to working with circular images. They also need those images to have high contrast and colour saturation in order to retain their impact when projected over distances, or in ambient light. DHA’s expertise will also enable Scene Change to pre-distort an image to order, to allow for the fact that projectors are often off-centre to the projection surface, in one or both planes.
The video clips are ideal for a wide variety of applications, including videowalls in nightclubs and as background to theatrical productions or corporate events. Having worked closely with High End on the output, the Scene Change library integrates perfectly with Catalyst, but is also flexible enough to work with future projection software. On offer to customers will be an increasing range of pre-recorded CDs, single clips or customized CDs and the option for PAL or NTSC format material.
