USA - Color Kinetics' intelligent LED illumination technology is being used in New York City Lites' dynamic design for the set of Super Millionaire, which debuted to television audiences on 22 February on ABC. "The Super Millionaire set was designed to reflect the show's bigger, bolder premise while staying true to the familiar look and feel of the the original show, Who Wants to Be a Millionaire," said Deke Hazirjian, owner and president of New York City Lites, which managed the entire project from lighting design, to installation, to control during taping.

Lighting designer Chuck Noble says: "With just days to conceptualize, design, and bring the set to life, Color Kinetics' LED-based systems enabled our vision through sophisticated control and tremendous creative flexibility - allowing us to add an element of movement that translates well on camera and matches the higher intensity of the game."

The set features several applications of Color Kinetics' LED-based illumination, including set-framing columns illuminated by iColor Cove systems, and a colour-changing staircase lit internally by ColorBlast systems. The audience seating area is bordered by a run of iColor Flex SL, which produces colour-chasing effects via individually addressable tri-colour LED nodes. The entire lighting scheme is controlled by a centralized DMX lighting console.

Color Kinetics say that their LED-based lighting systems are increasingly used for television applications that call for efficient, low heat, noise-free systems that can generate saturated colour on camera and allow for customizable effects in set design.
